what a fun day yesterday, partnering with Cyndi Spivey to share 5 fall classic wardrobe essentials. yes, it’s fall y’all. okay, the temps might disagree, but the fashion industry has decreed that fall clothes are here to stay. bring. it. on. today, i step into fall with a striped tee. definitely not trendy and always a classic, the mighty stripe tee is a wardrobe classic thanks to Coco Chanel. tradition has it that she was so inspired with the French sailor uniform that she incorporated the stripes into her 1917 nautical collection. it was a true break from the traditional fashion landscape that still had women tightly corseted. can you imagine the hue and outcry of traditional society when this relaxed tee was introduced? yet one hundred years later, we’re still proudly sporting our stripes. it’s a classic through and through. Saint James is a mainstay retailer with a rich history of providing the French Navy with its iconic stripe tee. nowadays, every brand from J.Crew to Talbots carries Breton stripe tees with a plethora of color choices.
as August draws to a close, it’s always a bittersweet time of year. just last night, i had to skip Oscar’s walk as i walked through the door at 7:45pm. although i wolfed down my dinner, by the time i was finished, the skies were dark. guess who couldn’t find her reflector vest? that’s on. my to-do list today. but nature is cueing us in that fall is on its way. my garden always looks a little worse for wear this time of year. the heat is tough on plants—time to give it a little TLC and add some fresh annuals.
today’s ootd has a prep to its step with a modern twist. it all starts with a rainbow-striped tee from Talbots. as a matter of fact, i’m dressed in Talbots from head to toe. the slim ankle jeans in natural are the perfect partner with the striped tee. this time of year, i love to add a third layer, and this denim field jacket will get lots of mileage due to its flattering cinch waist. it’s a modern twist with a classic jean jacket. if it’s fall, that means it’s loafer season! how cute are these tasseled leather brogues? they’re easy to slip into, and they have a memory foam footbed. can’t beat comfy and cute. it’s a winning combo every time.

I love the Talbots T shirts that are the heavier weight. I have at least 6 of them and they are great to wear from fall through spring. I just ordered 2 new ones. I would like to have a field jacket but prefer one with a regular collar and no fitted waist. I am long waisted so they don’t work for me.
Hi Beth, I just have to tell you how much I like your short hair. You look 10 years younger. Cute and perky! with a lot of good things to say.
You look lovely. The stripes always make me feel happy.
Hi Beth!
I hope you found your reflector vest. If you can recommend who offers a good one please post.
Thanks!
I love stripes even in pants. I don’t drift to far away from that and usually stick to two colors. But I am noticing some multi color tops lately that really appeal to me. This one is beautiful and eye catching.
Beth, will you be wearing white jeans in the fall and early winter? I have several pairs that I dearly love.
Love your posts and that links that you provide. Thank you for listing the name of the classic Breton tee manufacturer: Saint James. I’ve been trying to remember that for a while. Lol. Just curious, is there a reason the posts don’t list a date at the top? It would make it easier to search by date, when I locate an older posting I’d like to follow. Many thanks and keep up the great work!
It may be Fall/Autumn where you are Beth, but here in the southern hemisphere, it’s spring with tulips, blossoms and all my veggies poking through the warming soil. In our paddocks, the lambs are birthing and all’s right with the world.
Today, a mild 18 degrees which warrants polo shirts, Sperry’s and rolled up jeans. If I take the 3 year old grandson down to the beach, it may even be shorts!
The southern hemisphere may be upside down but trust me, we do enjoy great seasons.
