like wearing shorts or distressed denim, wearing white can be a controversial topic. when should i wear white? or should i even wear it at all? questions long debated and will be to come, no doubt. it probably comes as no surprise that i happen to love white. and it probably comes as even less of a surprise that i wear it year round. and because i love white so much, i thought we’d continue our “how to” series today and talk how to wear white.
i’ve gone through the archives and pulled a variety of different items and outfits demonstrating my love of skirts, jeans, shirts and the like. hopefully this post will inspire you to pull out that pair of white denim that’s been sitting in the closet untouched.
today, i chose a classic color combo – the mighty black and white that’s always right any time of year. but i think it looks particularly crisp and clean for summer. and there’s nothing quite like a crisp cotton shirt. if you ever wonder how to jazz up a white shirt blazers and cardigans add that little extra something. but today i reached for a knit shell to add pizazz to an otherwise ho-hum outfit. knit shells are a closet staple that looks great tucked underneath blazers. but they can shine on their own when worn as a vest. who doesn’t want versatility when it comes to their wardrobe?
here, d i’m trotting out a new pair of jeans. this pair fits like a glove, has a high rise with button closure. the fabric is performance stretch denim that moves with you through the day. many of us shy away from white denim due to lumps and bumps showing. that isn’t the case with these jeans. although it hugs your curves. and i do mean hug. i’m wearing a size 8, and it fits true to size.
there are so many versions of a white shirt – button-down, tuxedo, non-iron, silk, cotton, statement sleeves, the choices are endless. so below i’ve pulled together a sampling to give you a sense of what we’re working with.

I love your sweater with the fringe at the hem. Did you get it recently?
the sweater with the fringe is about two years old. the brand is Kinross.
Love the white.
white is clean and crisp and goes with everything. i love it too!
The last two are my favorites. I have trouble getting the right whites together in the same way I do with blacks. They do lean warm or cool.
i don’t think the whites necessarily have to match. i love cream or ivory with white.
Love the short do!! So youthful on you 🙂
i love the short do too! but beauty is in the eye of the beholder as so many readers think the longer version makes me look younger. go figure!
Hi Beth,
Can you please tell me where you got the pullover sweater top with fringe? I love that one!
Thank you
Lisa
the fringe sweater is Kinross about two years old.
Love the white suit. Wouldn’t have thought of that combination. I have several white jackets but not a blazer – update ❤️
Do you know what lip combination you are wearing in the white shirt section, where you have the pink hearts in the background? That is seriously a stunning photo of you.
hi andrea! i cannot remember the shade of lipstick i’m wearing in that photo. so sorry!
Thank you for your positivity !

thanks so much for your thoughtful coment. thank goodness there’s no expiration date on style. so we will keep on keeping on.
So many pretty combinations–I also love white looks. It’s a great starting point for so many variations. And with just a touch of another color, in accessories, scarves, a sweater, shawl, or jacket over a shoulder, etc, white items are so versatile and the possibilities are endless.
i love white for all the reasons you listed. and what’s better than a crisp white cotton shirt? absolutely nothing!
You are just the epitome of elegance. Whatever you wear, you carry it with grace and class. Thank you for sharing.
I look forward to your posts.
