Happy Thursday, Ladies! As a companion piece to the post from last Sunday: What to Wear at the Pool, today I have What to Wear at the Beach. While there are obvious overlaps when it comes to swimsuits and some accessories, today’s post covers beach-specific accessories – and since the beach isn’t always about swimming, I have some easy breezy outfit ideas if you’re headed to the beach sans a swim.

Spending a day at the beach doesn’t always have to include swimming and sunning. Taking a picnic is a great way to have fun at the beach, or just strolling along the water’s edge on a relaxing walk is another great way to enjoy time out at the beach. I have created a few inspirational outfits for occasions such as these.
Whether you’re headed to a beach party, barbecue or just taking a stroll, a cotton voile dress will keep you cool and looking chic. While linen is a fantastic summer fabric, cotton voile is light as air and a maxi dress is the perfect way to maximize the ocean breeze.
A casual shorts outfit is instantly elevated when you swap out some of your casual accessories for materials that scream summer. A raffia cap takes the casual ball cap accessory to a whole other (more chic!) level. Soft blues, natural tones, and looser-fits are perfect for the beach, you’ll stay cool and comfortable.
Having the right beach accessories makes a huge difference in the ease and comfort of getting to, and enjoying your time at, the beach. My must-have items include an Adjustable Chair-Mount Umbrella. When I am headed to the beach solo, this chair-mount umbrella is essential because it’s easy to set up and doesn’t require a lot of muscle to get it in the sand like a larger umbrella.
When I am headed to the beach with the family, our beach wagon is a lifesaver because we typically have several beach chairs, towels and snack bags. And while the Yeti Wheeled Cooler is pricey, it’s virtually indestructible, easy to wheel in the sand, and keeps our beverages ice cold for several hours.
SPF lotion for your body and face is important all year long, but pay special attention to applying and reapplying this skincare necessity all day while you’re at the beach. I like to apply SPF lotion before I get into my beach outfit, and then reapply to my exposed skin throughout the day. For reapplication, I find that sprays are easier because of the sand. For my face, I like the Supergoop! (Re)Setting Spray SPF 40. And the Sun Bum SPF 50 spray is great for my exposed arms, legs, chest, and back.
1. Vacation Ready SPF Vault 2. Supergoop! Mineral Matte Screen SPF 40 3. Sun Bum Daily Body Lotion SPF 50 4. Supergoop! Glow Screen SPF 40 5. Sun Bum Cool Down Lotion 6. Supergoop! (Re)Setting Spray SPF 40 7. Sun Bum SPF 50 Spray 8. Supergoop SPF 30 Lip Balm 9. Colorscience No-Show Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 10. Alba Botanica Sheer Mineral Face Sunscreen SPF 30
Don’t skimp on the SPF! There’s nothing worse than getting a sunburn. Even if you don’t get a sunburn, caring for your skin after sun exposure is important too, which is why I like the Sun Bum Cool Down Lotion. This after-sun lotion restores hydration to your sun-exposed skin with aloe, cocoa butter, jojoba seed oil, and vitamin E.
