why i can’t get enough separates

a few weeks ago, we focused on all things separate.  we showed you everything from how to wear matching separates to how to style the same separates two ways.  it turns out i’m still separates obsessed.  as much as i love summer dresses, the sheer possibilities separates provide you are endless, which is  why i can’t get enough separates this summer.

why i can’t get enough separates

i think sometimes we take separates for granted only because they’re our go-to for most of us.  i’m willing to bet that we all wear far more pants, shorts, skirts than we do jumpers or dresses.  but it’s worth pointing out, though, just how much fun separates really are, which is probably why they’ve become the norm and not the exception.

a floral pencil skirt

how cute is this pencil skirt in sequin floralJ.Crew really knocked it out of the park with this one.   given how colorful it is, i can match it with virtually in pastel top i want.  today, i’ve paired it with a pink linen rolled cuff tee also from J.Crew.  but this outfit would work equally as well with a yellow halter or baby blue button down—your choice really.

summer of sandals

summer is for sandals, and sandals are for summer.  just like you, we’ve been all about sandals this summer and have tried to source as many as we can for you.  i’m featuring a pair of (similar) strappy sandals, but ankle tie or slide sandals would work just as well.  just like separates, the possibility space is nearly endless.  what are your go-to sandals this summer?

I really like the longer skirt on you. Where would you wear that outfit?

  2. Terry

Sorry…I was distracted by the mac and cheese add! Yes, I live in separates all year. Itโ€™s a rare occasion that I wear a dress. Cute outfit today!

This is a great purse and it’s amazing how versatile pink can be. I am always temped to wear my pink sandLer outfit I have but I can see where white would be better. Too much matching is not good. This is such an inspiring outfit because I can translate it to my blue stripe pants with my blue top. Thanks Beth.

Love the skirt. JCrew has three skirts I have loved for summer. You have featured two already. This is one of the skirts I love.

    Hi Beth,
Love your outfit. That skirt is a good length on you. I’ve come to an age where comfort is at least as important as fashion so Birkenstocks have become my go to sandals. They make them in many colors and styles so they don’t look like the original hippie types. My knee issues have done a number on my back so I can’t walk much in anything else. I have other sandals but they are strictly for dressy sit down events. You are lucky to be able to walk in heels. Congratulations on your quick recovery

Cute outfit! I like those sandals, too. The pinks with this are lovely. I’ve been going for walks most days and some days I’ll wear a cotton skirt, as I find them just as comfortable as shorts, etc. They’re comfortable and look a bit more pulled together than some of my shorts! You look terrific

Hi Beth! Thanks to your post I checked online for the J. Crew pencil skirt you are wearing. There are some reviews with pictures of the beautiful sequined fabric up close, and the colors look amazing. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction for a lovely piece to add to my wardrobe – and even better itโ€™s on sale!

I saw this skirt on your Instagram post and immediately came over to your blog. Fabulous looking outfit

I enjoy your blog very much. Would love to see different options to use the same separates, ie, same skirt with a blazer , cardigan, or other blouse, etc. or same shirt with different bottoms, or different kinds of jewelry. It would help encourage my creative juices! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. thanks for the suggestion!
