Key Elements of preppy fashion
One of the key elements of preppy fashion is the use of classic, timeless pieces such as oxford shirts, cable-knit sweaters, and khaki pants. These staples are the building blocks of a preppy wardrobe and can be mixed and matched to create a variety of looks that exude sophistication and elegance. Another essential element of preppy style is the incorporation of traditional patterns like stripes, plaids, and polka dots, which add a sense of whimsy and charm to an outfit. Accessories also play a crucial role in achieving the preppy look, with items like pearls, loafers, and statement belts helping to tie together the overall aesthetic.

how to achieve the preppy look
To achieve the preppy look, I started with a classic button-up. Since it’s summer (and a hot one at that) instead of choosing a traditional cotton button-up I chose a linen button-up. This one is Persian pink from J. McLaughlin (old, similar here). A pair of white denim or linen pants would work beautifully with the pink shirt, but I chose a white denim skirt from Talbots. ย Loafers (similar here and here)and belts help tie the preppy look together and effortlessly embody the timeless and polished appearance that preppy style is known for. But traditional patterns like stripes, plaids, and polka dots will add a touch of whimsy and charm.
