Happy Thursday, Ladies! Last month, I shared Fall Wedding Guest Dresses for Petites. I was heading to a wedding at the end of October and I shared a floral dress that I planned on wearing. Well, at the last minute, I changed my mind and decided to wear a velvet suit to the wedding. I love velvet in the fall and winter, itâs especially fun to wear for the holidays because it feels so special. So today, I am sharing Velvet for the Holidays and Beyond.Â
The Kate Slim-Fit Pants in Velvet and the Alexandra Blazer in Velvet are sold separately from J.Crew. Both fit true to size and I am wearing Petite 0 in both pieces. Honestly, this suit is so comfortable and was the perfect choice for a fall or winter wedding. I received many compliments. And I have to say that I felt confident walking out the door to the ceremony because this suit fits like a dream, the velvet is so chic and overall, itâs classically stylish.Â
The peak lapel of the Alexandra Blazer has a lovely braided trim detail that adds polish â perfect for a special occasion!
I love adding a feminine touch to a menswear-inspired look and you can do that with your top, like this Washable Silk Halter Top from Quince, which adds a romantic touch to my suit ensemble. You can also do that with your jewelry. But since I donât wear much jewelry, I decided to further a feminine look with my shoes and handbag.Â
No matter which color velvet suit you go for, accessorizing with metallics is a sure bet to look chic and fabulous. Go for classic gold or silver, but you can also try anything metallic. The lilac version of the blazer and pants is so feminine and gorgeous, and it would go beautifully with something fun like lilac platinum heels or lilac metallic strappy sandals.Â
If the rosettes on my Heather Ankle Strap Sandal are what catches your attention, I have collected a few different styles and colors that feature a feminine and fun flower detail. All of the shoppable shoes below are from one of my favorite shoe brands: Linea Paolo. If you havenât tried this brand, I encourage to give it a shot. Their shoes are comfortable, the quality is excellent, and they are reasonably priced.Â
I have shared this beaded clutch before and one similar to it. The two that I have shared are from last year and no longer available. But bags like these are great little investments for when you want a statement bag. This is from Anthropologie, which has a great selection of beaded handbags at reasonable prices.
If velvet is made from cotton or polyester, it is ok if it gets wet. If itâs made from rayon or acetate, the nap will be permanently disrupted wherever it gets wet. So be sure to look for the velvet material content and always go for cotton or polyester.Â
Hand-washing or dry cleaning are the best ways to clean your velvet clothing. Hang the items to dry on padded hangers. Donât iron velvet, steam on low, inside out, instead. The heat from an iron or dryer can permanently ruin the texture of velvet. Remember, itâs always best to follow the care instructions on the label for best washing practices.
Store velvet tops and jackets on padded hangers to keep creases from forming because they can permanently crease the nap. If you are storing a skirt or trousers, use the hanger ribbon loops to hang, rather than hangers with clips since the pressure from the clips can permanently flatten the nap. Store your hanging velvet items in a breathable garment bag to keep the dust off.Â
When you wear velvet, itâs a good idea to have a lint roller handy!Â

A truly elegant outfit and fabulous choice to wear to a wedding. I love how your shoes and the top compliment the overall look. Stunning!
Thanks so much, Deanna! I have always worn dresses as a wedding guest, but I have to say that wearing a chic suit might be my new favorite wedding guest outfit! Good to hear from you, xo Kelly
You look FIERCE, Kelly! And what a great idea to switch to this velvet suit for the wedding … Your entire ensemble is great! The floral metallic shoes: gorgeous too.
Question: Blue or Brown Velvet? I’m looking at a velvet jacket and trying to decide … Is one more timeless than another? maybe flip a coin? đ
Hi, Carolina Girl! Wow, good question…Beautiful brown is so IN right now, but you can’t beat a classic blue velvet jacket, or blue velvet anything for that matter đ Thanks for stopping by today, it’s good to see you! xo Kelly
