Happy Thursday! I am headed off to Mexico so today, I am sharing What to Wear in Mexico. This will be my second trip to the Yucatan Peninsula and I am so excited to return! For my first trip, I went to Tulum, which is a very popular beach vacation destination. For this trip, instead of going south from Cancun, I am headed a little Northwest to a place called Holbox, and then on to El Cuyo. What I love the most are the white sand beaches, tropical waters, and the food of the Yucatan. There is plenty to see and do in Mexico, so I always like to plan my packing according to what my activities will be. So let’s dive into What to Wear in Mexico!

As I mentioned, I always consider my activities when putting together a capsule wardrobe for vacation. My activities will include walking and sightseeing through the towns, days on the beach, a fishing trip, and a nine-course tasting experience at El Chile Gordo, a restaurant that promises a gastronomic journey through Mexico. All of these activities are pretty casual, but I am going to bring this Pleated Shirtdress from Anthropologie for dinner at El Chile Gordo.
Then I consider the weather. The forecast calls for very hot and sunny days while I am there, so my Mexico packing list includes shorts, tank tops, swimsuits, linen pants, and swim cover-ups that can double as day dresses, including a crochet maxi dress that is out of stock, but here is a similar crochet dress from Talbots. I will bring a light linen jacket in case it gets chilly in the evenings, and it’s great for the plane ride.

When I think about what to pack for Mexico, I am thinking of a capsule wardrobe with pieces that can mix and match so I can create different outfits out of the same pieces depending on the day and my activities. Recently Beth posted a great post on Affordable Clothing Brands that features great options for what to pack for a beach vacation.

Along with my shorts outfits, a couple of my swim cover-ups can double as dresses. Primarily the Cotton Voile Beach Shirt and a Sleeveless Maxi Dress.
My Mexico packing list includes three swim tops and three swim bottoms. All of my two-piece swimsuits coordinate with each other so I can mix and match them to get different looks.
In addition to my bathing suits, cover-ups, shorts and tees, I am packing a few tank tops to have in the mix, like this Shelf-Bra Ribbed Tank, this Racerback Tank Top and this Pima Cotton Tank Top.
I mentioned above that I have the fortunate opportunity to experience the gastronomy of Mexico at a nine-course tasting dinner at El Chile Gordo. Overall this is a pretty casual place, but to mark the occasion as special, I have a fun casual dress to wear. I featured this dress back in February when I first started planning for this trip.
Because I am packing incredibly light, I am leaving the espadrilles at home, so I will instead wear the Gabi Thong Slide Sandals which are leather and while casual, they will be perfect for the restaurant environment which is very casual.
One of the activities we have planned is a private boat trip that includes fishing and sightseeing. Hopefully we will catch some fish because the boat captain will prepare a ceviche with our catch! For this excursion, I want to wear my bathing suit but I also want to wear something with a little extra sun protection, so I think the Bungalow Popover Top will be perfect. And I want to wear shorts for ease of movement getting on and off the boat. Sensible, closed toe shoes are important too, so my waterproof Melissa Possession Jelly Sandals are just the ticket!

This sleeveless midi tee shirt dress is perfect as a swim cover-up and a day dress. This one is old, but I found a similar option at Athleta: Essential Midi Dress. When packing for beach vacations, especially if you’re packing light, it’s good to pack items like this dress that can pull double duty and can easily go with the accessories you’re going to mostly use so you can avoid bringing items that you’ll only wear once. This dress will be great with the Gabi Thong Slide Sandals

So many ideas- love adding the tan-brown belt and shoes to a black dress for a great new look and all the mix and match ideas are super.
