if it’s august, then the temps are still hot, hot, hot. but fall is just around the corner with milder weather. with the temps in flux, you might be wondering what to wear to work when we’re spanning the seasons? well, do i have an outfit for you that solves that dilemma. an outfit that’s perfect to wear to work in august as well as september and october.
today’s ootd starts off with a knit vest (similar here) from Talbots that’s several years old. it was last seen on the blog here. but good news! there is a similar vest available again this year. the subtle difference is the new version is sans tie. this knit vest goes with dresses, pants, jeans, and skirts. just about everything! including a polka dot blouse or houndstooth skirt. that’s the beauty of neutrals.
as you can see, today’s color scheme is classic through and through. black and white are always all right. even if the white is technically ivory. this sleeveless turtleneck is tipped in black and will serve me well all through fall. it’s paired with a houndstooth pencil skirt that feels like a knit with the construction of cotton, spandex, and polyester. this baby will pack well in a suitcase, so it’s perfect for any upcoming business trips.

black accessories add sophistication. the shape of this handbag (old, similar here and here) is classic.
houndstooth is a traditional pattern seen in menswear. but i always love to borrow from the boys. this duo pattern has been around since the early 1800s but soared into popularity when the Prince of Wales was spotted wearing a houndstooth blazer. Christian Dior introduced houndstooth tweed suits in the 1950s. since then it’s been a perennial favorite.

cap-toe pumps (similar here and here) or slingbacks are also classic in nature.

Good looking outfit Beth! Love the stroll down the flower-lined street and the spunky music video đđđļ
This is a stunning outfit. I love vests–so versatile. Question–online this looks like navy. Are you mixing navy and black? Either way, it looks great.
Elegant and sophisticated. I love a sleeveless turtleneck with a vest. Looks fresh. I have a pair of spectator shoes very like these, and I use them with so much in the fall/winter. I love the street you’re on–Junior Style is killin’ it. Mr. Style must be smiling. ;))
Love this outfit! Sometimes I think those vests are a little too long forme, but it looks great on you! Love the skirt and shoes too!
I love it all except the turtle neck. It looks good on you but I now look like a turtle if I wear one!
Cute idea with the long tie vest…love your hair and sunnies <3
