if you thought gift giving was over think again. those of you who live in the UK, Canada, Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand celebrate boxing day which arrives the day after christmas – december 26th. many of us in the U.S. of A. aren’t familiar with boxing day so here’s a low down of that tradition that started over 800 years ago during the middle ages.
collection or an alms boxes were kept in churches to collect donations for the poor. these boxes were opened on december 26th and distributed to those in need. boxing day is also linked to a British tradition where the servants of the wealthy would wait until the 26th of december to visit their families, as they served on their masters’ christmas day. traditionally, the employers would give each of the servants a box filled with gifts, money and leftover food. lastly, boxing day was the day tradesmen collected christmas boxes as a thank you for their hard work throughout the year.
fast forward to the 21st century where boxing day is a public holiday known best for shopping. it’s similar to black friday in the United States, where retailers slash prices. this is why i’m once again partnering with Marks & Spencer, the retailer that’s been in business since 1884, to share a few of my boxing day picks. i think i like this holiday! here’s a quick link to the women’s sale page.
many of you know my love of cashmere runs deep. every chance i get i stock up cashmere sweaters. this lilac cashmere cardigan is a perfect addition to my closet. i love to wear it with a pretty camisole with the top buttons left unbuttoned. if lilac isn’t your cup of tea there are fifteen colors to choose from. my second choice was a blue/green cardigan. but there’s gray, black and a lovely crimson.
or what about a color block cashmere crewneck that will brighten any gloomy winter day. and guess what? this cashmere sweater is machine washable! that’ll put a smile on your face. or you might like a solid color cashmere crewneck or solid color cashmere turtleneck instead.
can believe this polka dot cashmere crewneck is already sold out? don’t panic because if you love animal print as much as i do then you have to check out this leopard print cashmere crewneck. remember, leopard is a neutral and goes with everything. this sweater would look fierce with these black leather pants. am i right?!
if you’re looking for a casual but chic sweater let’s not forget a cashmere hoodie that’s the perfect companion to blue jeans (i try to keep at least one on hand).
last but not least is a black and white striped cashmere crewneck. don’t you love the polka dots pattern mix? it’s kind of snazzy.
but there are loads of great products available at Marks & Spencer. there are boots and dresses. coats and jackets or how about activewear for those new years resolutions we made to head to the gym more often. one thing is certain, you won’t want to miss Marks & Spencer boxing day sale! happy shopping.
