This summer there are 3 lip different lip looks that I’ve seen worn a lot. Personally I also switch out between all 3 of these and wanted to share some of these ideas with you today. I’d love to know at the end of the article which look is your favorite and/or which one you’d like to try on this summer!
Today, Jennifer is showing us 3 lip looks for Summer

Lip oils are certainly having a moment this spring and summer. I’m wearing the Milani Fruit Fetish lip oil in “cherry lime” here.
I am so obsessed with these for providing my lips with a juicy slick of color that is reminiscent of a popsicle! The difference between these and lip glosses, are that typically lip oils offer the same hydrating colors, but without the stickiness of a gloss.
Did you know that we don’t have oil glands in our lips like we do in the rest of our body?? That means that if you battle with dry lips like I do, a lip oil can not only provide you with a pretty sheer wash of color, but also the oil component (unlike a waxy balm) can nourish deeper!
I did a short video review of these specific affordable Milani lip oils here on my YouTube channel if you’d like to watch it in action. I find these sheer lip oils to be a product that even non-makeup wearers like to try because it’s a super subtle amount of color.
Here I am wearing Revlon’s Colorstay Satin Ink in “Seal the Deal”.
This is a rich bold hue with a semi matte finish. It’s definitely a show stopper of a color. I love shades of bright pink in the summer time because it always livens up any basic t-shirt and shorts. Wearing a bold pink lip is like a fashion statement…for your face! Good news is, with a bold shade like this, you should keep the rest of your makeup look fairly simple so the lip takes center stage.
There are many options of pink for every skin tone. The rule of thumb for picking your pink is as follows…
Personally, when I wear a bold shade like this, I like to stick with a matte finish because those formulas typically stay longer and don’t move outside the perimeter of the mouth which can be very obvious with a bold shade.
One of the most iconic pink lipsticks of all time though, is the Nars “Schiap” which I also showed off over on YouTube here and gave a short history lesson behind. If you’ve never tried a powerful pink shade, definitely summer is the time to give it a whirl!
It’s honestly a lip look staple every women should have in her makeup routine - no matter the season! I’m wearing one of my all time favorite nude shades, the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Cream in “Fenty Glow”.
It’s certainly a universally loved shade that is mega glossy but give the look a warm nude hint of color.
The key with finding the right nude gloss, is to make sure it doesn’t wash you out! You want your perfect nude to look like your natural lip color, but bumped up about 2 shades deeper. I go for the glossy formulas for nude in the summer because it gives the lips a very healthy and fresh faced look. And glosses add the illusion of more voluminous lips that catch the light, which is a bonus because our lip volume can deteriorate as we age. A great nude gloss is the key to a polished no-makeup makeup look!
Summer Lip Tip : Don’t worry about the lip liner with all three of these lip looks. Keep your lips simple and less severe by just swiping and going!

Jennifer, I didn’t know I needed a lip oil until now! Very dry lips. I prefer the Fenty color on you because it gives you a harmonious look with your bronzer and hair color. I enjoy your posts very much.
Thanks so much for the sweet comment Terry! And yes definitely give a colored lip oil a try – they feel (and look) glorious on dry lips!!
I agree — I like the Fenty Glow the best, but I also think you look pretty in the other shades, too, Jennifer! It is fun to change it up sometimes! I had never heard of lip oil, either. Sounds like a good option to try. Thanks for your ideas!
The lip oils with color are one of my fave looks for summer (and I’m sure into the other seasons as well!) so definitely find yourself one and give it a try! Changing around your lip look is so easy and fun to help spice up your regular makeup routine.
Hi Jennifer, I enjoyed this post on summer lip looks. I have just recently become a big fan of lip oils. At 61 years old I love the moisturizing effect with a subtle hint of shine and a bit of color.
Exactly Nancy!! the lip oils are the perfect summer look that are so easy to pull off with their sheer look.
