Nothing says it’s the holiday season like a Christmas RED LIP! Today, I'm sharing 5 holiday-inspired lipsticks I'm wearing this season.
When it comes to getting ready to attend all of the festive parties and gatherings, one of the easiest and stress-free ways to look very merry, is to don a bold red lip look! Pair it with a crisp white shirt and black pants or a cozy seater and leggings, and it can completely elevate your look at a minimal cost and effort.
Today I’m sharing some of my very favorite red lip shades with you that I put on when I want to look timeless, but jolly! I often get asked, "What shade of red should I wear with my skin tone??” And to that I reply, wear the red lip shade that makes YOU feel beautiful!
I don’t totally 100% believe the rules of skin tone when it comes to what you should and shouldn’t wear when it comes to red. Because as you’ll see in the next photos, I am not afraid to wear a cool blue red, but then I also love a fiery bright coral red. I feel amazing in all of these shades - which one I wear honestly depends on the mood I’m in.
When it comes to red, you have to just play around and experiment with a few, until you find the perfect one.
But before you apply this bold statement shade, remember to have an exfoliated lip surface because nothing is worse than applying this shade onto flaky lips! Yikes!
My go-to product right now to solve this beauty issue we all struggle with in winter, time is the easy to use Buxom Power-full Lip Scrub, $19. It's an amazing lip conditioner and scrub in one! It’s a must have step I do after I brush my teeth every night 🙂 I’m already on my second stick.

This is a classic red shade for MAC that’s been around for years, since 1999, for good reason. This very matte, vivid blue-red is super flattering and so sophisticated on the lips. I never need a lip liner with this shade because of its great staying power and doesn’t bleed on me.
My favorite thing about this lipstick besides it’s shade, is the formula and feel!! I’ve never felt a matte cream lipstick so comfortable and soft like a marshmallow gliding across my lips! Hard to describe, but trust me, you’ll love reapplying this lip souffle. This specific color is the founder, Selena Gomez, her favorite go-to shade. It’s a bright soft red that leans slightly coral on me. If you’re scared of deep dark reds, try this one.
Not a lipstick fan but want to try a shade of red? You can’t beat the $5 price tag for this very popular and iconic drugstore gloss. Red Velvet is more of a cherry or red apply-like red in my opinion than a red velvet cake, however. But this gloss is so pretty and provides medium coverage. You can check it out in action on me in my NYX Butter Gloss swatch video on my YouTube Channel HERE at the 7-minute mark to be exact!
This formula is described as a weightless fluid longwear paint - which is a perfect description! It feels water-like on, not heavy like most matte liquid lip products. And the color was created to be a “universally flattering red” for anyone to pull off! I always feel so powerful when I wear this red, not an exaggeration. And I get more compliments when I wear this one too! I compare it to another popular universal red by Gwen Stefani’s line here on my YouTube channel as well if you’d like to watch.
his is a merlot wine red! Dark and mysterious, I love this color so much when I’m wanting a moody feel and not into a bright red! I think it’s so sophisticated and the vanilla smell of this formula is so intoxicating. It dries down a comfortable matte finish and is super long wearing. Check it out in action over on my YouTube short here along with two other favorite shades by Gwen Stefani (creator of this brand).
So which one of these reds was your favorite or are you willing to try it out?! Also, if you love the combination of a red lip with a golden yellow button-up top like I’m wearing in this post, you can try a similar blouse from Banana Republic here or Chicos here.

Love this post, Jennifer. I love reds for formal evening or winter parties. I also love the cohesive look you are wearing, for this post – eyeshadow/blush. Would you be kind enough to share what brands/colours you used?
This would also make for a great post – how to do monochromatic looks, with different lip colours.
Adding Jennifer to your lineup of contributors was a splendid choice. Her info is excellent. Wish I lived near her location so I could get a makeover.
Merry Christmas Beth and family!
