Happy Thursday, ladies! The Nordstrom Sale is continuing and opening up to the general public tomorrow, July 15th. There are still a lot of great items in stock, and a lot of deals to be had. We’ve covered the sale extensively over here on the blog. On Sunday, Kelly and I shared our dressing room diaries with you. And last Thursday, I showed you how to build an essential fall wardrobe at the sale. I’m gonna pick up that theme today and get back to wardrobe basics from the sale.
I’ve picked 5 basic items & color combos that every woman should have in their fall wardrobe. They are:
- black and white;
- trousers;
- jeans;
- turtlenecks; and
- chambray shirts.
While the Nordstrom Sale is sometimes criticized for its selection (or the fact that it sells out quickly), I love it because it provides a great opportunity to stock up on the basics. So, for each of the above items, I went and pulled some great deals and built outfit inspirations featuring them. Let’s see what I came up with.
The Summary
Today I’m getting back to wardrobe basics and picking my 5 basic but essential fall staples
For each category, I’ve put together an outfit for inspiration, sourcing all items from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
Each outfit is shoppable via a text and image-based widget

1. Black & White
The beauty of a black and white color combo is that it’s very traditional and classic yet always feels modern and contemporary. While I love, love love to add color to my wardrobe, whenever I want a classic look, I always head back to the basics with black and white.

2. Trousers
A good pair of trousers will work year-round. But don’t be afraid to buy more than one pair—add a variety of colors and styles that suit your figure. From ankle, straight leg, and wide-leg there’s a style for everyone.

3. Classic Denim
You can never have too many pairs of blue jeans: boyfriend/girlfriend, ankle, distressed, frayed, flare, wide-leg, cropped flare, boot cut. The list goes on and on.
And, yes, some of these styles are trendier than others. Once upon a time, skinny jeans were a trend. Now they are a closet essential.

4. Turtleneck
Turtlenecks are timeless classics that always seem to feel fresh. Layer them with a sweater; pair them with a ruana, or just wear them alone. So many different stylings that keep this item on-trend.

5. Chambray Shirt
Chambray (or denim) shirts are timeless classics. Just like the turtleneck, they go with just about everything—including jeans! I love layering them with cosy fall sweaters or pairing them with a suede jacket. A wardrobe basic—a chambray shirt is a must.
