Happy Tuesday, ladies! I think it's safe to say the past few years have been difficult for just about everyone. I don't need to go through the details: we've all lived it. But I've been thinking lately about what it even means anymore to live our best lives at this age or any age, really.
I know, I know: there can still be a perception---especially on social media---that everyone continues to thrive. And while that may or may not be true, the reality remains: the constant starts & stops of the past few years have disrupted our routines, plans, and goals.
I think, though, that we still can live our best lives if we're honest about what "best" means on any given day. Sometimes "best" means something very small like waking up in the morning and getting dressed as opposed to spending the day in loungewear. Sometimes "best" means something very big like traveling on our own for the first time after a spouse dies.
And it's important to remember "best" for me is not necessarily "best" for you, at least in the particulars. But I think what is universal is this: no matter what's going on in the world around, there's always space in the cracks of that uncertainty to live our best lives one step at a time, day by day.
Today I'm featuring athlesuire from Kinona at Nordstrom

Over the past few years, part of my best life has been a continued focus on my health journey. I've documented it extensively on the blog. From changing my eating patterns to working out at Orange Theory, Pilates, and Peloton 5x times a week. I try to stay as active as possible. Not always easy, especially after undergoing a total knee replacement a few years ago.
This year, I'm venturing out into unfamiliar territory. I'm learning to play pickleball. And I have it in me to join a league. (Trying to drag Kelly along with me.) I'm always looking for new ways to connect and develop friendships. (Even at my age.) So, wish me luck!

My middle son is an avid golf player, and he's really inspired me to take lessons. Georgia has some great courses and there are women's leagues in Athens to take part in. Am I good? Absolutely not. But is it fun? Absolutely. No matter how bad I might be, I never want to not try, even at my age.

there are so many great athletic brands. Athleta is a favorite of mine and Zella from Nordstrom. but i love this tennis/golf ensemble due to the wicking and built-in SPF.
I love the tennis dress. You look amazing.
I also love your advice about trying new things and making new friends through new activities.
No golf for me, but pickle ball sounds like fun.
Good luck with your golf game. It’s not an easy game.
golf is not an easy game but my mom always had the attitude that she played golf just for the social aspect. and she never got hung up
on her score. great attitude!
Beth, this post really resonated with me. So true: You are never too old to make a new friend or try a new sport … and the little decisions we make every day can determine the outcome of that day and beyond. I’m going to check out this COOL brand/golf dress (YOU look great in it) at Nordstrom but the added substance of your message made my day. 🙂
it’s so important to keep our social circles widening year after year along with our minds or even fashion sense.
otherwise, we get stuck in a rut and who wants that?
A very wise post, thank you, Beth! Love the outfit on you! Good luck with pickle ball!
thanks, nancy! i’ll report back in a few months.
Two sports I thoroughly enjoy. Glad you have picked up both. I have been golfing for awhile and recently started to play pickleball. Love the outfits.
i’m so glad you love to play both! it’s so important to stay active. not only our minds but bodies too.
Four years ago I retired, moved cross country and started playing golf. I just turned 71 this week and golf has been such a blast. I play 3 times a week, sometimes more, with fabulous women; made great friends! You can play this game into your eighties! As to another reader’s comment about the price of golf clothes: shop the sales at stores like PGA Superstore and Lori’s Golf online. Monterey has great buys on Amazon as well. When you play tournaments at other clubs you often get a discount in their pro shops.
good for you! golf is an amazing game and i love the social aspect of it. my mom played for years just so she could join my dad
in couples scramble on Friday night!
Hi Beth, I love this quote and hope you do too…thank you for all the great content on your blog…there is always positivity and inspiration to be found here!
“There is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age.”
– Sophia Loren
what a lovely quote from a lovely lady! thanks for sharing.
Hi Beth,
I’ve been playing pickleball for the last 6 years and it has really changed my life for the better. I have met the nicest people who love being active and competitive in our 60’s, 70’s and 80’s! I’m so glad you’ve joined the club! Maybe I’ll see you in a tournament someday!
thanks for sharing, kelly! there’s a reason pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America!
Love your attitude. What is a best life? Who knows- but we try and we fail. That’s life, right? Bless your heart and
here’s best wishes from your follower in Westport CT.
you are so right susan! life is filled with ups and downs but it’s up to us to keep growing.
Great advice! You look fabulous in both of those outfits. xoxo
it’s important to keep going, to keep trying, that’s what life is all about!
