classic or trendy style

this post sponsored by Nordstrom

hello, Wednesday, and hello fall weather. these days you will find me camped in my backyard. the weather has been picture perfect with sunshine, blue skies, and highs in the 70s. yes, sweater weather has arrived and i am loving every minute. it’s time to sit by the fire and put up my feet. nature has put on a show that can’t be missed and i have the perfect front row seat. so come on in and sit a spell. the only pressing issue is which outfit to wear? classic or trendy style?

classic or trendy style

which style is your preference? classic or trendy style? me? i love to incorporate both. classic style stands the test of time but it can look dated or stodgy if we don’t stay abreast of trends. and trendy style? well, it can look like a hot mess if we’re not careful so i love to add classics to keep the outfit grounded. today, i’m keeping it simple with a classic black and white color palette. every woman should own a pair of black pants. they’re a wardrobe staple. last year i discovered the most a-ma-zing black pants from Spanx that fit like a dream and are perfect for a chilly fall day. an oversized white popcorn sweater from French Connection with three-quarter sleeves is on trend this year. both pants and sweater are available at Nordstrom my favorite retailer that has oodles of brands to choose from. it’s one-stop shopping at its best especially since i can shop in my pj’s!

last year i rediscovered a favorite shoe brand Amalfi available at Nordstrom. these loafers (similar here and here) are on style repeat due to their classic good looks and comfortable fit.

Shop Loafers

to add a spin to a classic outfit add a graphic print sweater from BP a Nordstrom Made brand that’s oh so affordable. trendy lug sole loafers are from Donald Pliner. the leather moto jacket (similar here and here)? that’s a tried and true classic that makes every single must-have list.

a few of my favorite things about Nordstrom.

  • free shipping and returns by mail or in store
  • buy online pick up in store
  • curbside pick up (no muss, no fuss. Nordstrom brings your merchandise to you while you wait in your car)
  • the Nordy club where you earn 1 point per dollar, status based on spend, and enjoy perks to beauty and style workshops, curbside pickup, and the first to shop select brands.

accessories are the easiest way to incorporate a trend. lug soles are seen everywhere this year. i think i like it! platform loafers are cute and comfy. i particularly like the white stitching around the sole. it’s small detail like this that adds that little extra something.

a big thank you to Nordstrom for this sponsored post. and thank you lovely readers for supporting the brands that allow me to bring you fresh ideas.

๐Ÿคฃ I have to laugh that you call 70’s sweater weather! That’s bathing suit and beach weather in the north.

    1. ha ha! when we lived in Minnesota they wore shorts when it was in the 50s! when we lived on a Pacific Island they pulled out their sweaters in the low 80s.
crazy how different regions perceive what’s cold and what’s hot!

    2. Judy

Leslie, I have to agree. Here in Michigan, we say, we take our coats OFF when it reaches 50 degrees. A few years ago we were boating in the early evening in Florida with friends who lived there. It was 70 degrees and we didn’t even have sweaters on. Our friends were bundled in parkas and they were so afraid we’d be cold. We Northerners are such a hardy bunch!

And here in Rhode Island, it’s about 70 and we’re in tee shirts (maybe long sleeved) and shorts or light trousers. So funny.

  2. Mary Delay LeRoy

Thanks for picturing two different outfits using some of the same items!

    1. glad you liked the post!

  3. Maeve

Not my style but I like the popcorn sweater as tiy style it. Nord. says to go down a size; did you? I am slender and only 5’3″, so I am wondering if I should go down two sizes. Thanks for this post!

    1. i did not go down a size. so i would listen to the reviews and go down one not two.

  4. Debra

    Hi Beth,
Love the post ! Just wondering about the sweater it says it runs large and l am the size size as you so did you size down? It looks great! Cheers ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. i did not size down but i definitely could have as it would have been a slimmer fit. still oversized but slimmer.

  8. Very pretty sweater, I am not familiar with this name brand.
    Thank you Beth.

  9. Nancy

Great outfits. I love them both. Classics for sure.
