Hello, happy Thursday, ladies! A few weeks ago Alex and I were out at the Georgia Club and I mentioned Beth and I often go there together; and this week Beth is joining me for dinner and cocktails. We’re dressing for an evening out with style.
The weather has been lovely, so a short stroll around the club before dinner is always a nice way to enjoy the evening. Come along!

Dressing for an Evening Out With Style
1. Family Ties
It’s often said that one can’t choose their relatives, and that goes double for in-laws. But I definitely won the in-law lottery when I married Alex. Beth and I have a fun and caring relationship; and we have only grown closer as the years have passed.

Beth and I enjoy a lot of the same things when it comes to movies, books, activities and travel. We are always learning new things about, and from, each other. This is an important aspect to any relationship and it’s wonderful that she and I have a friendship beyond mother and daughter-in-law.
The most obvious similarity between us is our fashion philosophy and aesthetic. That said, we each bring our own unique perspective and influences to dressing. We both gravitate toward preppy, classic style with emphasis on basics and separates. Favoring brands like J.Crew, Banana Republic, Ann Taylor and the more high-end, Vince and Ralph Lauren. We both enjoy certain trends and mix them into our classic wardrobes in ways that suit our tastes and moods from brands like Madewell, Anthropologie and Everlane.

2. Fishman Lugsole Sandals
(J.Crew)
Today I am sharing one of my favorite trends this season, metallic. I agree with Beth that metallics are neutral, and this season you will find metallics have taken on a shinier look with mirror finishes.
Kate Straight Leg Pant (J.Crew) | Similar Knit Top (White House Black Market) | Similar Knit Top (Everlane) | Similar Knit Top (JCrew) | Fisherman Lugsole Sandals (J.Crew) | Large Transport Camera bag
Rather than going all in on a shiny metallic dress, I like to bring trends into my wardrobe in pips and pops. These Fisherman Lugsole Sandals from J.Crew are super comfortable, perfect for fall because they are mostly closed, and they are FUN to wear!
These shoes add just the right amount of pop – especially with a muted-tone outfit like I am wearing today.
The Kate Straight Leg Pant from J.Crew in the Four-Season Stretch fabric is my new favorite fit. The fabric is light, but not too light for winter, and I love the movement these pants have. They really do feel great to wear. Comfortable, yet polished.

Coordinating with the black lug soles of my shoes, a simple black camera bag works out just fine. This is the new large-sized Transport Camera Bag from Madewell.

3. Chain Print Pleated Dress
(Ann Taylor)
Beth is wearing a beautiful Pleated Shirt Dress from Ann Taylor. The chain link pattern is subtle, creating elongating stripes. This dress is also available in petite sizes!

Beth’s red heels have a lovely D-ring detail that calls back to the chain link pattern on her dress. A fun detail that pulls the look together beyond the color coordination. This shoe features another trend this fall; a sculptural block heel shape. The Happy Hour Pointed Toe Pump by Jefferey Campbell is available at Nordstrom.
Tonight Beth and I are getting together over martinis and dinner to plan the fine details of our upcoming trip to Paris. We travel together pretty often, taking long weekend trips within driving distance from Athens. We enjoy having our girls’ weekends and can’t be more excited to make this overseas trip together, exploring all there is to see and do in Paris.

Kelly,
What a sweet note about your relationship with Beth! You two make a great pair! I’m a fan of metallic shoes and own several, mostly summer sandals.
We’ll be watching for your upcoming reports from Paris! Tell us the latest trends there!
Hey Carolina Girl! Metallics often seem to be more available in summer with sandals; but I am seeing so many great options for fall and winter, like loafers, heels and flats. I really like metallics for winter, they’re perfect for the holidays! Have a great Thursday, xo Kelly
Thank you for your great post. It is so nice that you are able to have so much fun with Beth.
Thank you so much for stopping by, Rory! xo Kelly
