Happy Friday, ladies! Another week in the books, and we’re heading straight into the weekend. Things got lively here in Athens this week with all of the kiddos heading back to school—always a breath of fresh air.
This week, on my other social channels, I’ve focused a lot on modern style trends. So today, I’m talking about embracing the modern silhouette, particularly the wide-leg pants. And because it’s Friday, of course I’ve got an easy peasy recipe and cocktail. Because after all, it’s Fridays with Oscar.

Embracing the Modern Silhouette
1. Wide-Leg Seaside Pant
(J.Crew)
Today’s outfit features a pair of wide-leg seaside pants from J.Crew. I’ve worn a lot of wide-leg pants this year, a trend I’ve happily embraced. It’s a dramatic shift, from say the late 2010s when skinny pants and leggings were all the rage.
A few tips to ease yourself into the trend:
- When in doubt, where a form-fitting shirt.
- Tuck in your shirt, especially a button-down to elongate your body.
- During transition season, wear a cropped jacket for correct proportions.

Love the style tips!
Hello to you and pats to Oscar and Ollie. You look fresh and cool today. I want to try the taco salad. Have fun at Tybee.
Hi, Oscar! Beth, thanks for the wonderful recipe and cocktail! You look great in the wide leg pants … and inspire me.
I love your outfit! I really love everything about your look today.
I would like to see the wide leg pants on Kelly. I have a photo of me in wide leg pants and I just look wide I vowed to never wear wide leg pants again. The jacket that matches the pants is long so maybe that’s the problem. I’m just under 5 feet tall
Hi MaryLynne โ Kelly hereโฆcheck out my most recent post How to Build a Capsule Wardrobe for an Extended Trip (link above the comments section)
You can see a photo of me wearing the J.Crew Seaside Wide Leg Pants (in navy, petite size xs). Those same wide leg pants are also featured in my Daily Looks, and I wore them on our Nordstrom shopping trip: https://www.styleatacertainage.com/featured/nordstrom-anniversary-sale-dressig-room-diaries-petites-and-regulars/
The tips Beth lines out above about wearing a form-fitting shirt, tucking in your shirt and wearing a cropped jacket to equalize the proportions hold especially true for us petites. I suspect, as you mentioned that the length of your outer layer was culprit and not the wide leg pants. It’s all about keeping things in proportion. A long jacket with wide leg pants will tend to swallow our shorter frame. If you like wearing the wide leg pants, I urge you to give them another try! I hope that helps! xo Kelly
Your outfit looks cool and relaxed today, perfect for summer.
When you discuss current trends, could you also present appropriate footwear for those looks , and include why?
Thanks!
Very nice outfit, light and cool!
As to your recipe, those are my all time favorite tortilla chips! I too shop at Publix, here in South Florida and I those chips are the best. They’re thin and crispy, almost like in a restaurant!!!
Thanks for posting this recipe for taco salad, Iโve been needing some more ideas for warm weather recipes. Happy weekend to you, Oscar and Ollie!
Oh I love your Oscar. I have a Zoey (Tricolor Springer Spaniel) and a Hannah (orange and white Brittany Spaniel). They send lots of licks to Oscar.
Now your outfit was lovely and beautifully comfortable looking. Thank you for your recipes! Delish! I love that you combine pretty fashion and your yummy recipes.
