Greetings from Tybee Island, Georgia! Our vacation is a few days underway and so far we have been settling in and relaxing. Even though Tybee is a small island, we tend to stay on the north side, close to home. So today, I'm exploring Tybee North Beach.
Today Kelly is exploring Tybee North Beach and showing us scenes from her travel
Kelly is featuring a pair of chino shorts from J.Crew and a utility shirt from Banana Republic

Kelly also reposted part of her beach capsule wardrobe at the end of the post
Tybee’s North Beach, just steps away from the famous Tybee Island Lighthouse is our preferred beach spot. It’s typically less crowded and there is a great beach bar called North Beach Bar and Grill.
There are interesting historical sites and accompanying museums to see on Tybee’s North Beach; including Fort Screven and two gun batteries. The Tybee Island Marine Science center is there too. The Marine Science Center offers beach walks, marsh treks and sea turtle nest excavations.
Another great spot on Tybee’s north end is the local shopping area. It’s a small street with local folks, artists and artisans selling their wares; from ceramics, photography and paintings to handmade clothes. There is a great coffee shop called Tybean, a fantastic hot sauce shop called Inferno, and our favorite pizza on the island is at Huc-A-Poos.
For our stroll around the north side, I am dressed for the heat of the day in J.Crew Chino Shorts and the sleeveless Ramie Utility Shirt from Banana Republic.
Chino Shorts (J.Crew) | Ramie Utility Shirt (Banana Republic) | Birkenstock Arizona Sandal (Zappos) | Straw Tote Bag (Talbots)
These items are part of the capsule wardrobe I packed for this vacation, you can check out the whole capsule and my tips for planning the capsule in my How to Build a Beach Capsule Wardrobe for an Extended Trip.
Since we are doing a bit of walking (on sand, dirt and pavement) I opted for my navy Birkenstocks because they are super comfortable and easy to shake off the sand.
The beauty of this capsule wardrobe is that I based it on a blue, grey and yellow color palette, so the navy sandals pick up the blues in my top, but I could have gone with my huarache sandals, my fisherman slides or my leather flip flops and all would have coordinated.
I have my woven tote, which is perfect in case I pick up a few bottles of my favorite hard-to-find hot sauce and other small trinkets I find along the way. [Update: They’re out of my favorite sauce, but the proprietor tells me they will have some in stock before I leave.]
That’s it for now, we are stopping for a slice. This is Kelly, signing off from Tybee Island, Georgia!

Hello Kathy, we also really enjoy how much quieter it is on the north end. It feels a bit more local, too. Thank you so much for stopping by today! xo Kelly
This is your best post so far Kelly! I feel like I’ve been on a little mini vacation now, (away from the current heat wave in Missouri!)always wanted to see Tybee Island. Good capsule stuff too!

Kelly, I loved your Tybee Island post! I’m in southeast SC and my family from the Midwest want to visit Tybee. I don’t know much about it. It would be a fun day trip! Love your capsule travel wardrobe!! Perfect! Thank you!
Hi Debbie, Tybee would be a great day trip. Plus with Savannah so close, you can really make a fun day of it touring the historical areas. Thanks so much for stopping by! xo Kelly
Im curious as to the significance of the hammer tatooo?
Hi Sue, I was wondering when someone would ask about that, Lol! The hammer says “Hope” and the artwork is from an original etching by a Montreal artist named Nadia Moss. Thank you for asking! xo Kelly
Thank you for sharing your vacation pictures. Tybee Island is now on the list.
