Hello, happy Thursday! Sweater dresses and skirts have been a thing for a long time, but this season, they seem to be more popular than ever. To me, it’s no wonder. Sweater skirts and dresses are perfect in the shoulder seasons – and in the winter! They are cozy to wear and they look great with boots! Today I am focusing on a sweater skirt. As a separate, I have a lot of styling flexibility with a sweater skirt. I want to show you how to go from casual to date night by wearing 1 skirt 2 ways.

We have two looks, one skirt today. First up is casual. This CashSoft Sweater Skirt from Gap feels like cashmere; it’s very soft and lightweight. I went for a very neutral oatmeal color. This skirt is selling out fast, especially in the petite sizes. I have gathered several alternatives at varying price points if you find your size sold out. (See the text widget below.)
CashSoft Sweater Skirt (Gap) | Similar Rib Knit Skirt (Old Navy) | Similar Wrap Knit Midi Skirt (Banana Republic) | Similar Wrap Sweater Skirt (J.Crew) | Similar Knit Sweater Skirt (Kohl's) | CashSoft Sweater Hoodie | Similar Rothy's Chelsea Sneaker | Large Transport Camera bag
I really like to seek out matching separates. I love having the option to wear them as a matching set, or styling them separately. Maximum versatility gives you a lot of bang for your buck.
For my casual matching set, I have the CashSoft Sweater Hoodie. A pullover hoodie in a knit is a more polished way to go casual.
Keeping things low-key and comfortable I have on the Chelsea Sneakers from Rothy’s. This pattern is from last year, but the Espresso Spot version is a subtle animal print.
The Large Transport Camera Bag is turning out to be a go-to bag for me lately. I always gravitate more toward browns and tans for my day-to-day handbag, so this purchase of a black daily bag was kinda new for me. I have to say that I am really enjoying the difference. A great investment at a reasonable price.
For my date night styling of this CashSoft Skirt I am keeping with the matching separates to create a monotone, dress-like look. So I have the CashSoft Sweater Vest. The vest is meant to be a little oversized. Overall, it’s a soft, polished look that feels comfortable and perfect for early fall.
CashSoft Sweater Skirt (Gap) | CashSoft Sweater Vest (Gap) | Ella Open-Front Long Sweater-Blazer (J.Crew) | Juliette Collarless Sweater Blazer (J.Crew) | Wool-Bouclé Double-Breasted Sweater-Blazer (J.Crew) | Cole Haan Vestry Pointed Toe Bootie (Nordstrom) | Madewell Sydney Clutch (Nordstrom)
Since it’s a date night styling, I am not wearing a tee or top underneath. I think the wider v-neck and looser fit gives that sophisticated-sexy look; it’s modest yet seductive. If I wave my arms around you could see a little of my bra because the armholes are a little wide, but this is easily remedied with a camisole underneath.
It’s a little chilly in the evening lately, so I have a light, boiled wool coat. This coat is several years old, from Madewell. It’s no longer available but I have rounded up a few sweater blazers that are comparable. (See the text widget above.)
I am pairing this ensemble with a simple, classic pointed-toe heel. These are low booties from Cole Haan: the Vestry Pointed Toe Bootie, from Nordstrom. Very comfortable with a sturdy heel and cushioned footbed.
For my handbag, a simple envelope clutch. This one is old, but I have really been loving my pink Sydney Clutch. Its design is simple and modern, so that it dresses up or down really easily. It comes in black too, so it’s a perfect swap for my bag.
