Happy Friday! It’s the last Friday in October, with Halloween a mere two days away. Who still loves to pick out a costume and celebrate in style? I think it’s a FUN day that brings out the child in all of us. last year, my costume was super easy as I went as Hot Lips Houlihan from M*A*S*H. this year? I’m still mulling it over. I have a cute Wicked Witch of the West costume packed away in the basement, or I could concoct something from my closet. Miranda Priestly? Jenna Rink from 13 going on 30?or the iconic Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. So many choices, so little time.
Construction started in my basement this week, so I’ve been distracted from Halloween prep. Oscar and I thought we would take you on tour for a behind-the-scenes look at where we started and where we’ll end up on December 1st. It was downright chilly yesterday, so I was more than happy to slip into a toasty warm turtleneck and cardigan for the home tour. Oscar? He’s got a great fur coat that comes in handy when it’s cold.
Happy Halloween
Fridays are always about casual chic. Today’s outfit is no different. Love to add a bright pop of color, especially on a gloomy day. It immediately brightens my mood. This cashmere turtleneck (old similar here and here) from J.Crew is a favorite of mine and goes with so many things. A striped wool cardigan from Ralph Lauren matches beautifully. Relaxed Jeans (I sized down to a 6) from Talbots have a nice loose fit, perfect for Friday’s laid-back look. Yellow Driving Mocs (old, similar here) is the finishing touch!
Here’s the spookiest house in the neighborhood. Halloween done right!
Last year’s Halloween Costumes. Can you guess the characters?
In a very large bowl, mix together the popcorn, pretzels, peanuts, candy corn, and Reese’s pieces. Set aside.
In a medium saucepan, bring the honey, sugar, salt, peanut butter, and butter to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly. Boil without stirring for five minutes. Remove from heat, and drizzle caramel over popcorn mixture. Stir to coat.
Spread the popcorn mixture onto two baking sheets covered in parchment.

No way!! I love the yellow shoes!! In fact, your outfit is beautifully coordinated (as it always is). You taught me that yellow looks good on a woman with grey hair, and now I’m wearing it too. Don’t know what I’d do without your inspiration! Hope you have a spooktacular weekend – HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!
I am a huge fan of yours, and happily devour all your posts and blogs, and watch all your videos. I’ve bought some of the clothing you’ve shown on your posts and been very happy with the choices. I have to say though that I almost fell out of my chair when I saw the price of the turtleneck you’re wearing. Over $300! Yikes! I understand investment pieces and buying quality (Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers, etc.) that lasts for decades; but that turtleneck is ridiculously expensive for a laying piece.
If you read the post then you know the turtleneck is old from J.Crew. I tried to match similar colors. One turtleneck is very reasonably priced by Karen
Kane and the other is from luxury brand Tory Burch with a price tag to match. Hope that helps!
Happy Halloween Beth & Oscar!
Great post. Great outfit! I would not picture you wearing that color palette, but it looks terrific on you!
Thanks for sharing the tour of your basement. Can’t wait to see the “after” pictures!
Have a wonderful weekend!
FUN! Fun Post from beginning to end. Love the costumes. Your outfit is perfect for a party. Have a great time.
On renovating.Beware of leaving anything small undone because it will never get done later once you move things back in. Looking at missing piece of crown molding.🎃
Happy Halloween from a Halloween lover! Your season embracing OOTD is absolutely charming. Love the photos of your family in costume, and the completed Halloween tableau at your neighbor’s house is a SCREAM! The Monster snack sounds DEVILISHLY good! Enjoy it all with the gang, including Oscar & Ollie. Hope you’re watching as many scary movies as possible. I am.
Thanks for sharing your renovation photos, Beth. Can’t wait to see photos of the finished project. Loved the photos of some of your Halloween decor. You’ve given me some new ideas for next year. Happy Halloween to you and the always adorable Oscar!🎃

The yellow shoes are distracting from the outfit. Otherwise its great.
shoes are the easiest accessory to tweak to suit your style preference. and style is always about personal preference.
