Hello Fall! Today marks the official start of Fall with the autumn equinox. To be technical, the equinox doesn’t actually start until 9:03 PM Eastern tonight. And today’s beautifully warm, summer-like day seems to know that fact. With temps in the high 80s, my attempt to style a summer maxi skirt for fall is squarely set with one foot in summer and one in fall, because, well, it’s about that time to start thinking about my Fall skirt picks.

Today, I am styling this skirt with the Relaxed Cashmere Tee Shirt from J.Crew. I have a couple of these cashmere tees and I love them! They are so versatile; a perfect layer adding just the right amount of texture. Plus, they have the casual look of a tee shirt but the cashmere gives it just a little extra polish. Since I am a tee shirt and jeans girl at heart, I love to have a more polished tee shirt-like option to rotate in my wardrobe.

Last week I professed my love for clogs. I am sharing my love for them again today with an open toe version from a brand called Intentionally Blank, sold through Madewell. I am a bit of a sucker for retro-style shoes and these are definitely retro! The Intentionally Blank Leather Mar Mules Sandals come in this grass green color and the more neutral Russet color.

The grass green color of my sandals coordinates with the leaves of the flower pattern on the skirt. I love to play with color in this way; pulling out a color in a pattern and coordinating that with my accessories. Whether it’s a matching color like this, or a complimentary color, it’s just a fun way to think about and emphasize color in an outfit.
Out at the lake on a warm day, it’s hard to reckon that fall is officially upon us. It’s time to begin my annual closet rotation; moving my espadrilles and summer shoes to the higher reaches of my closet, swapping their placement with loafers, booties and closed toe shoes; summer dresses to the back, pants to the front. But for just another few moments, I will enjoy this last bit of summer sun.
