Happy Friday, gang! Fridays with Oscar looks a bit different this week as the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale opens to the public today. Hooray! Good news is there are still some terrific items to shop for. The bad news is some items have already sold out. It happens every year… and don’t worry, Oscar decided to stop by for a mini photo shoot and he’ll be back next week along with a yummy recipe and cocktail. Today, I'm focusing on shopping Nordstrom's in-house brands with a few extra goodies sprinkled in for good measure.
One strategy I use to shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is to shop my favorite brands. I love Vince, Theory, Spanx, Sweaty Betty, and AllSaints just as much as I love Nordstrom Made Brands that are oh so affordable: Zella, Caslon, Halogen, Open Edit, and Nordstrom Signature.
Today I'm focusing mostly on Nordstrom's in-house brands, which offer tons of value and affordability
I'm modeling a variety of items I picked up at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, all of which are shoppable via text and image-based widgets
Although we're departing this week from Fridays with Oscar, we'll be back next week with our regular scheduled programming
One of my favorite purchases this year is this faux leather trench from Open Edit. Trench coats always make my top 10 coat list due to their versatility. I love how this faux leather trench mimics the traditional version but with a twist. Good American is a denim brand I haven’t tried on for size until the Anniversary Sale.
Now that I have it I’m hooked. I liked the fit and I liked the weight of the denim. The reviews on the Nordstrom site are mixed with the straight leg raw hem jeans. Most reviews mentioned the waist was big and the thighs were tight but since I don’t have much of a waist and more slender legs the fit was perfect for me.
I purchased a pair of Open Edit shoes this spring for a trip to the Ritz Carlton. I liked them so much I purchased the Kya flat mule. Definitely, size down a half size. Again, the reviews are mixed with this shoe but I’ve worn them out and about and didn’t find them hard to walk in and didn’t notice the flapping sound. Maybe because I raised three boys and have the keen ability to tune out loud noises…
Anyhoo, I love the shoes due to the metal hardware. But Steve Madden offers a pointed-toe mule that’s similar and has good reviews.
Boots and booties are always a good choice when it comes to shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. This month I am working with Easy Spirt over on Instagram and I chose the Larime Bootie in brown leather. It also comes in black suede and black leather. If you want a comfortable shoe or boot head to Easy Spirit. They never let me down.
I picked up two sweaters from AllSaints this year. A lock mock neck and an oversized polo that look adorable paired with the Spanx Perfect Pant. Franco Sarto gifted these lug sole loafers that come in four colors. The lug sole is still trending this fall and winter so if you want to jump on the bandwagon now’s the time. I love the look and I love the comfort. Win/win!
Last but not least is this croc embossed faux leather blazer from Halogen that has a matching skirt. I love separates as you can wear them multiple ways but if you put the skirt and blazer together you have a modern suit. The skirt runs small so size up. I stuck with a size 8 but I wouldn’t take this skirt on vacation when I tend to eat whatever the heck I want and the skirt would be snug.
And I always have one or two skirts and pants hanging in my closet that keep me honest about my weight/size. Again, the reviews knocked the skirt due to pocket placement. I don’t get it as the pockets are placed on the seam and inconspicuous. Again, I didn’t notice anything weird. I dunno about these reviewers…
Oscar and I wish you a lovely weekend!

Thank you for including Oscar. My beloved Rilee passed in March so I look forward to Fridays to see Oscar. Brightens up my entire week. Please continue to include him. And Ollie when you can. I know divas can be difficult at photo sessions. (Smile).
I bought the Open Edit faux trench at the sale as well. I absolutely love it. I was on the hunt for a neutral trench and this is exactly what I wanted.
Love your posts❤️
Love all these outfits Beth! I always enjoy your fashion. I too have a sweet, fairly new daughter in law, I’m glad you all can start traditions together! But I like your fashion best!
