Celebrating the Fourth of July

Happy Friday, ladies! We are headed straight into July on Monday, with the Fourth of July not far behind. Today, we’re celebrating all things red, white, and blue and dishing up a Chicago Dog that’s perfect for an outdoor BBQ!

Growing up, the Fourth of July marked halfway through summer. The phrase “knee high by the 4th of July” meant fresh corn on the cob wasn’t far away. And the 4th always meant the retailers would begin to mark down their summer inventory. These days, there’s a sale every week, so no need to wait with bated breath if an item you loved was finally on sale! Although some items still sell out lickety-split. But there’s a big difference between sales in 1974 and 2024.

One brand that I’ve become a big fan of is Frank & Eileen because they sell the same items year after year. Love an oversized white button-up or a fantastic pair of chinos? Frank & Eileen carry them, and if your favorite color sells out, don’t worry-they will be restocked. I love that! And they’re fit can’t be beat! Yes, they are on the pricey side, but I find myself reaching for Frank & Eileen’s wardrobe staples again and again.

Today, I paired white shorts from Frank & Eileen with a sleeveless linen blouse (limited sizes similar here,  here and here) from Talbots. And since we’re celebrating the 4th, I couldn’t resist adding a pair of red sandals. All in all, I’m ready for a casual backyard BBQ. Another great option would be a denim dress or linen shirtdress that would keep you casual and cool for the 4th of July.

For my Fourth of July outfit, I went with blue and white, and a pop of red with my sandals. The Tropez Shorts, my Tank Top, and my Patch Pocket Vest are all from J.Crew. I love these linen shorts so much this summer, I have them in three colors! They are the perfect summer bottoms because you can lounge in them, go super casual, or even dress them up with cute espadrille wedges and a blouse.

Strawberry Frosé

A Strawberry Frosé is a great cocktail for the Fourth of July; it’s festively colored and garnished with red strawberries and blueberries, It’s cold and refreshing, plus it is low ABV – in fact, you can leave out the vodka and just go with the Rosé wine.

Chicago Dogs and the Fourth of July Table

Is it even the Fourth of July without hot dogs?! We are taking our hot dog game up a notch this 4th with the all-American Chicago Dog! What makes a Chicago Dog? Well, it’s all about the toppings: mustard, of course, with neon green sweet relish, a dill pickle spear, tomato slices, diced white onion, sport peppers, and celery salt top an all-beef hot dog – that’s a Chicago Dog! Typically they are served on a poppy seed bun, but we went with plain buns.

We placed all the toppings in individual bowls so everyone can top their dogs exactly how they like them. A hot dog is a hot dog, but a Chicago Dog is a whole other level of hot dog, perfect for celebrating the Fourth of July!
