anyone got that halloween fever? besides me, and maybe oscar. although he didn’t quite agree on adding a few spots to turn into a dalmatian. ahem, he’s a German Shepherd, thank you very much. but i couldn’t resist getting into the spirit of things this weekend and donned my best cruella de vil for the occasion. who else loved the original disney classic ‘101 Dalmatians?’
movies have long been inspirational to me. but since the world wide web kind of changed our world, there’s soooo much inspiration at our very fingertips. this week i’m setting up my first witches tea party thanks to a dear blog friend trina at trina’s teatime who hosts a bang-up yearly party. check out this incredibly talented woman when you have a chance. love her!
but i’ll walk you through the party from beginning to end. and maybe you’ll be inspired to host your first witches brew next year. for my first outing, i chose a traditional theme. yes, who can compare to the wicked witch of the west? there’s a hat, and shoes, and a few spiders for good measure.
don’t worry, i didn’t forget a broomstick. who knows when i’ll need to make a quick getaway?
there was monster munch. this rendition reminds me of the popular moose munch by harry and david.
Monster Munch
INGREDIENTS
12 cups air-popped popcorn
3 cups mini-twist pretzels
1 cup roasted, salted peanuts
1 cup candy corn
1 cup Reese’s Pieces
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup creamy peanut butter
1/4 cup butter
Orange candy melts and sprinkles for garnish
INSTRUCTIONS
In a very large bowl, mix together the popcorn, pretzels, peanuts, candy corn, and Reese’s pieces. Set aside.
In a medium saucepan, bring the honey, sugar, salt, peanut butter and butter to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly. Boil without stirring for five minutes. Remove from heat, and drizzle caramel over popcorn mixture. Stir to coat.
Spread the popcorn mixture onto two baking sheets covered in parchment.
and poison apples. a witches brew which in reality was raspberry lemonade. mason jars are so versatile when it comes to entertaining. today they were gussied up in a cosmopolitan rimmer that mr. style uses for my martini glass come cocktails and questions night i host on facebook and instagram.
then there were witches hats. chocolate cupcakes iced with green frosting, topped with a fudge striped cookie, orange frosting and capped with a hershey’s kiss.
from the looks of it oscar is so over the whole cruella thing. but then, he’s had a big week what with a new girl in his life. before we sign off oscar and i want to wish each of you a lovely weekend! and have a little fun while you’re at it..

Not too sure Oscar is onboard with the Cruella costume. However he does seem to take things in stride. How is the newest member of your household? xoxo
ollie is great! the two are slowly assimilating but i think ollie can give oscar a run for his money. she is soooo smart and what a lovable personality.
xo
I can tell you like this holiday a bunch. lol. I am going to be a unicorn. Pictures to follow.
i’m gonna check it out. what fun to put a costume on and get into the spirt of things. loved putting this post together.
xo
I love your costume! Oscar doesn’t seem too sure about it. Lol.
oscar was not feeling the halloween vibes once i stepped into the cruella costume. but he didn’t seem to mind the wicked witch. what does that mean…
xo
Maybe he knows Cruella doesn’t like dogs 😉
Well Beth, I think you’ve scared Oscar. You’re gonna have to make oil to him. ????
he was so cute, valoriie, and kept looking at me like “mom, what the heck are you doing? i want the old mom back.” dogs are so darn smart.
xo
They are and sooo wonderful!
Up to him…spell check…grrr
Great costume!
it’s always fun to play dress up isn’t it? loved putting this post and video together. next year i need to plan ahead and film in august! ha.
xo
Poor Oscar. Looks like you put a lot of fun together. Not so sure about that Munch thing.
oscar couldn’t wait for me to pull that wig off! the munch is heavy on the side of calories but it’s pretty tasty especially when it’s served once a year.
xo
Happy Halloween! almost. Somebody’s gettin’ in the spirit of things. Have fun! Oscar looks not amused.
What a lovely idea. I’ll definetly keep this in mind for next year. Might be a good idea for an October book club gathering. Have any good ideas for a get together for November? I’m hosting our book club then and have no idea what to serve.
