Happy Friday, gang. And Happy Halloween. Okay, Halloween is technically next Thursday, but Kelly and I are getting into the holiday spirit a few days early. It’s always a fun day when you add a little extra fun to your life and your outfit. I’m always sharing that fashion should be FUN but that goes double with our lives. Right?! Aging is not all doom and gloom. Who wants to turn into a grumpy old man or woman during our golden years? Getting older has its perks and we understand all too well that life is too short. So go on, put a little fun into your lives this weekend.
Per usual Kelly has whipped up a yummy appetizer and we have a delicious cocktail perfect for a fall day. I don’t know about you but I am enjoying the cooler temps and slipping into suede boots, blazers and sweaters. Ah the joys of fall and fall fashion my favorite time of the year.

Beth’s Halloween Costume
I have several costumes on hand but I couldn’t resist adding this Pink Ladies Costume into the mix. Grease was one of my favorite movies back in the day and the biggest box office hit of 1978. And the PInk Ladies added so much to the storyline, especially Betty Rizzo played by Stockard Channing. Marty Maraschino, Frenchie, and Jan were essential members of this iconic girls’ group and I adored their pink jackets!

Kelly’s Halloween Costume
I decided to go as Olive Oyl for my Halloween costume this year. I watched Popeye cartoons as a kid, and I remember loving the iconic Shelley Duvall as Olive Oyl in Robert Altman’s Popeye film from 1980.

Halloween Gingered Pear Cider

Halloween Riesling-Gruyère Fondue
We usually make a Halloween charcuterie board, but this year we decided to mix things up with a Riesling-Gruyère Fondue with a delicious assortment of sausage, fruit, and bread for dipping.
Charlotte Street Oval Serving Platter | Striped Tidbit Plates | Matte White Fondue Set
Riesling-Gruyère Fondue
Ingredients:
- 16 oz. Gruyère Cheese shredded (4 cups)
- 2 tbsp. AP Flour
- 1 cup Dry Riesling
- 1 garlic clove grated
- 2 tbsp. Brandy
- 1 tbsp. Fresh lemon juice
- ⅛ tsp. Ground nutmeg
To Serve
- Black pepper
- Grilled sausage cubed
- Sourdough Bread cubed
- Apple wedges
- Grapes
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, toss together cheese and flour until well coated, and set aside.
- In a large saucepan, bring wine and garlic to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to medium-low and add ½ cup of cheese mixture, stirring constantly until melted. Add remaining cheese mixture ½ cup at a time, stirring constantly until each addition is melted and the cheese mixture is smooth, about 8 minutes.
- Reduce heat to low and stir in the brandy, lemon juice, and nutmeg until combined. Keep warm over low heat, or transfer to a heated fondue pot. Garnish with pepper and serve immediately with cubed sausage, bread, apples, and grapes.
