This week, we’re paying homage to St. Patrick’s Day, which celebrates the Irish heritage and honors St. Patrick, one of Ireland’s patron saints. Many legends grew up around him, like driving the snakes out of Ireland or that he used the shamrock to explain the Trinity. St. Patrick’s Day has been observed as a religious holiday for over 1,000 years. Since this festive day falls during Lent and the consumption of meat is waived, the traditional meal of Irish families is corned beef, bacon, and cabbage.
In some cities, St. Patrick’s Day generally involves public parades, but no matter where you live, you can join in on the festivities and wear green attire or shamrocks or dye your beer green—that is, if you like beer. Chicago takes their parade seriously and dyes the Chicago River green yearly
Kelly is whipping up a delicious Irish spring roll with smashed potatoes. And the cocktail is Kilted coffee!

We are making festive snacks: Irish Spring Rolls and Kilted Coffee
Today, I’m nodding toward my Irish heritage by wearing a gorgeous Kelly green sweater jacket from Ann Taylor. It’s half cardigan, half jacket and a whole lot of fun. Green, in vibrant or subtle shades, is seen everywhere this year. Give me all the green since it’s such a happy color. I particularly like Kelly green paired with navy, but it also looks fantastic with black, so I popped it over a vintage rib tee from J.Crew and Fairbanks pants from Madewell.

As Beth mentioned above some cities in the US are famous for their St. Patrick's Day parades and festivities. Did you know that Savannah has the third-largest parade and celebration in the country? The festivities begin tomorrow with pub crawls and pre-St. Patrick's Day parties. I hope the luck of the Irish is with me, as I don my Kelly green Kelsey Pants from J.Crew Factory.

The Kelsey pants are not available in this color anymore (these are from last year) but the style is available in 4 other colors. I also rounded up a different style, in this Kelly green color: the Colette Pants from Anthropologie. Keeping everything simple, I went with The Short Sleeve Shirt in white and the Loraine Bit Loafers.

Kilted Coffee is a fun spin on an Irish Coffee. We are adding hot chocolate powder to the mix, with coffee and Chivas, topping it all off with a little sweetened milk foam.
I struggled with what to call these cute little cabbage rolls, then Alex said, they look like little spring rolls, so naturally, Irish Spring Rolls had to be their name! Smashed potatoes, with herby mayo, whole grain mustard, and corned beef, all rolled up in a cabbage leaf.
Ollie, Oscar, Kelly and I wish you a lovely weekend!

Hi Oscar! Beth and Kelly, you two are so fun! Wonderful post on St. Patrick’s! I’ll be making my usual Corned Beef and Cabbage for the fam next Sunday. In B-ham today, visiting our son. I waved as we went by Athens!
Thank you for the Green stylings, the delicious corned beef recipe and the very interesting Kilted Coffee!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you both!
Thanks, Carolina Girl! I hope you try the Spring Rolls. It’s a nice twist!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
I love the kelly green blazer, but I promised myself I would not purchase another one for a long while. lol I have 30 something blazers in my closet. I should count them someday, but afraid to lol!
Me Too!
One quick question when you pour the hot coffee into the glass how do you stop the glass cracking?
Hi Karen, the chocolate powder was already in the glass, and we poured the room-temperature Scotch in before the coffee, so perhaps that cooled it enough to keep the glass from cracking because we didn’t have an issue. I hope that helps!
Thanks for both replies. I’ve been warned before about coffee on glasses so I wanted to check.
Put a spoon in the cup when you pour.
Beth, the green of your cardigan-jacket is fabulous! Green is not a colour I wear often, only really for St. Patricks, so I don’t have much in my wardrobe. Here in the SF bay area we can’t rely on a regular temp for the day – sometimes it’s in the 50’s and overcast, other times, like this years forecast, it’ll be high 70’s and sunny. So maybe having a pair of green pants or a green skirt like Kellys inspiration is the way to do it!
SF can be tricky at times. When we lived there, I would wear a jacket and scarf to work during the summer months!
I love St Paddy’s Day and celebrate with corned beef as other American families do. In Ireland, the Irish have amazing fresh beef and have no need to corn it. When I lived in Ireland, we got the whole week off from school, so St. Patrick was our favorite saint, of course. The luck of the Irish, BTW, was not originally good luck, so it can be a double-edged sword.
Perhaps I should hope the luck of the Irish isn’t with me then, Maeve Lol! Thanks for stopping by! xo Kelly
I always enjoy seeing Oscar and Ollie.
I hope they are buddies.😊
They get along quite well. But they do have their days just like kids!
