Happy Friday, ladies! Or Bon soir, as I am spending the day in Marseilles, France. Before I left for the cruise, Kelly stopped by for FWO (Fridays with Oscar), and we had winter on our minds. Can you believe the official start of winter is less than a week away? Today we have a Holiday Dessert and Irish Coffee. What’s better on a cold winter day than Irish Coffee (I had one on a rainy, cold day in Florence)? And if you’re looking for a dessert that’s not too sweet, then may I suggest the Almond Ricotta Cake? It’s delicious! Of course, my best buddy Oscar stopped by, although he was a bit sad. He and Ollie have a sixth sense when I’m about to leave town. That’s when they stick to me like glue and watch every step. Don’t worry, buddy, I’ll be home soon!
The Mediterranean cruise the past week has been all sorts of fun! I can’t wait to share with you the beautiful sights of Italy, France, and Spain. I’ve walked a gazillion miles, eaten the pasta, drank the red wine, and thoroughly enjoyed the company of my oldest son, Alex, plus all the new people we’ve met on the cruise. It’s been a truly wonderful week.

Today, I slipped into a comfy, cozy outfit with a favorite outfit formula - a sweater and jeans. This time, I opted for a sparkly Fair Isle Sweater (limited sizes similar here and here) and white denim from Talbots. The color combination is cool and crisp and perfect for a little sparkle and shine without going over the top, especially if you add a pair of silver metallic flats (affordable options here and here). Many of you ask about the jewelry I wear, and I have to admit I’m a big fan of Lagos and their Caviar series. Today, I’m wearing several pieces from that line, including my watchband, stone bangle, hoop earrings, and stretch bead bracelet.

This red and white version of the Sissy Stripe Sweater reminds me so much of Christmas with its candy cane-color combination. It's from a brand called St. Roche, which is a high-end brand known for its knitwear. This sweater will set you back a pretty penny, I get that – to me, it's an investment piece. The quality is amazing and I love the feminine style of the puff sleeves, the ribbed hem, and the pointelle detail on the chest.
This particular color combination is no longer available, but I have collected similar styles at lower price points, like the balloon sleeve sweater from Talbots, or the puff sleeve sweater from White House Black Market.

This Irish Coffee recipe is the one they make at the famed Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco. This cafe is touristy, but it's one of my favorite Christmastime experiences to have in SF. The cafe is at the end of a cable car turnaround so you have the clanging of the cable car bells to set the stage for a lovely, Christmasy atmosphere. It's a simple recipe and preparation with only a few ingredients. It's thrilling to grab a seat a the bar and watch the bartender make 10 of these at a time!
The Buena Vista traditionally uses Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey, but we are cheating with Jameson.
This cake is a real treat, especially if you don't like super-sweet sweets. It's moist and dense with a beautiful lightly sweet almond flavor and aroma. It is the perfect match for the Irish Coffee. In fact, you can skip the dessert part and serve this for breakfast on Christmas morning!
All right, gang, that wraps up another FWO! Don’t forget to tune in this Sunday when we will kick off travel week. In the meantime, Kelly, Oscar, and I wish you a lovely weekend!

Hi, quick question, do you drain the ricotta before using?
