cheers to friday, gang! there are some weeks when friday just looks better than others. don’t get me wrong, friday has and will be one of my favorite days of the week. period. but there are weeks, and then there are weeks that you are glad to have behind you. TGIF came into existence for a very good reason. and this girl is especially thankful for friday this particular week. but before five o’clock rolls around and the cocktail shaker rattles and rolls there’s one more blog post to publish as our maine coon cat recently turned one!
yes, i’ve been remiss in celebrating ollie’s birthday! our maine coon kitten is officially a cat. can you believe ollie turned one in august? as a matter of fact, we brought her home in october 2017 when she was just eight weeks old. you can read the full blog post here. look at how tiny she was!
oscar was curious right away about his new house guest turned longtime companion. those two rascals are best buddies now, and there’s lots of activity in the djalali house thanks to these two critters.
ollie is helping bake christmas cookies. not!
oscar gives a look of disapproval. but in typical cat nature, miss ollie doesn’t care two figs! don’t we all need that kind of ‘tude from time to time?
the blog comes in handy as it serves as a diary. it’s so much fun to go back to older blog posts and see what the gang was up to. ollie is never quite sure about this bird.
and she is curious as a cat should be, always checking everything out. including groceries.
sometimes ‘the kids’ have to stay home when mr. style and i pack our bags and head off on new adventures. but we have an amazing dog/cat sitter that takes good care of them while we’re gone.
there’s lots of sharing and roughhousing that takes place on any given day.
ollie always comes running when she hears the sheets unfold. of course, oscar could care less about making the bed but if ollie’s in the mix of things he can’t be left out.
but her favorite spot in the entire house is the porch.
these photos were taken in may. look how big she is even though she’s technically still a kitten.
oscar can’t quite understand why ollie isn’t interested in his football. but then there are other ways to catch her attention.
as you can see, ollie loves to chill or be an active participant in our photo shoots especially if food is involved.
and here she is celebrating her birthday in typical cat style.
mr. style and i quite agree that ollie was the best addition to our household and oscar heartily concurs. here are a few fun facts about maine coon cats.
this is a large cat. most maine coon cats weigh 9 – 18 pounds. some tip the scale at 20 or more pounds. they don’t reach their full size until three to five years old. their nickname is ‘gentle giant.’
maine coon cats are excellent hunters and are one of the oldest natural breeds in north america and one of the most popular.
maine coon cats love their family and follow them around the house, but they aren’t needy and they’re definitely not lap cats. although ollie will jump up on the desk and sit on my keyboard so she can be close to me. thanks, ollie! they’re known for their intelligence and playful gentle personality which makes them great additions to families with children. maine coons are often cited as having ‘dog like’ characteristics.
maine coon cats are vocal cats but they trill or chirp instead of meowing. it’s a very special sound that makes maine coons very unique. and it sounds as if ollie is sharing very special information with us.
thanks for walking down memory lane today. it’s hard to believe ollie’s first birthday has come and gone. here’s to many more! on that happy note oscar, ollie and i wish each of you a lovely weekend. enjoy!
