we have featured a lot of great fourth of july content this last week to get us in a festive mood for independence day. sunday, i featured my favorite outfits and recipes from past fourth of julyโs. last weekโs fridays with oscar featured this yearโs decor and recipes for pies – a perfect dessert for the fourth. today we are continuing the celebration with festive red white and blue for the fourth. we have the firecracker cocktail and a light appetizer thatโs packed with summer flavor.
outfit of the day
we are festive and patriotic today! i have paired blue striped sailor shorts with a red tie neck top (similar here and here). the side tie on the neckline of this sleeveless top adds just the right amount sophistication to what would otherwise be a basic sleeveless top. to tie it all together, i have my red thong sandals (similar here and here).
these shorts are old but here are a few similar options:
front porch decor for the fourth
every year i put up fourth of july bunting. i just love the way it looks! it’s a timeless classic when it comes to independence day decor. i also place a few stick flags in my railing planters.
red white and blue accent pillows keep my rockers looking festive.
melon, mozzarella and prosciutto skewers
this appetizer is so easy, requires no cooking and is so fresh and flavorful. itโs a no-recipe appetizer that you can customize to fit your taste! these skewers have cantaloupe, marinated mozzarella pearls, slices of prosciutto and a fresh basil leaf. each skewer gets one of each, then top it off with a second piece of melon. you could also use peaches, in place of melon. or honeydew. either way, the sweetness of the fruit goes so nicely with the salty prosciutto. to top off the platter, i drizzled some balsamic glaze. easy-peasy.
Kate Spade Charlotte Street tidbit plates and serveware in navy fits perfectly for fourth of july table decor. the oblong platter is no longer available in navy stripes, but there is alternative pattern in navy.
firecracker cocktail
this cocktail is based on a cocktail from the Princess Royale Hotel in Ocean City, Maryland. itโs a layered cocktail that has red, white (clear) and blue layers.
pour the cranberry juice into a highball glass. then fill the glass with ice. slowly, over the back of a spoon, pour in the blue curacao. then repeat with the vodka and the soda.
Category:cocktail
i substituted cherry juice for the cranberry cocktail. and used plain vodka instead of raspberry-flavored vodka. flavor-wise itโs different, but the patriotic flair is there. although, my layers blended together a bit and we ended up with something a little more purple. but the firecracker was fun to make!

Thank you for honoring the Fourth! It’s comforting to know there are still people that revere our country’s history and want to celebrate it!! Your outfit is darling and the food and drink look delish! Enjoy the day! We will be doing our part as well, with all the pomp and circumstance that suits the occasion! Here’s to many more Fourths!! Cheers!
Have a FANTASTIC 4th! I love your outfit And, whether it’s the fabulous new hairdo or the whole package, you look about 10 years younger than even earlier in the winter/spring!
I love the last photo the best with you furry friend giving you some love. But truly, you are inspiring me to look good when I head out the door. I love your style, thanks! Bethany
Oh Beth that top is so you, bright, cheerful with a touch of whimsy. The colour is vibrant without being loud and looks great on you. Love the hair and Oscar is so precious ๐. I love those shorts. I have always steered away from all things horizontal but they are very slimming, perhaps itโs all in the fit but will definitely give it a go now.
Hi Beth, you look lovely with your new hair cut and festive outfit. House deco is fun. Oscar really loves you with his kisses.
Happy 4 th to you.๐๐บ๐ธ
That appetizer’s one of my favorite snacks–I love prosciutto paired with fruit and mozzarella. The balsamic drizzle over it all makes it yummy to me. And it’s good for you. Very festive and in the spirit. Have a happy 4th! Hope you get to relax with family some!
Love it all! Can’t wait to try the Firecracker! Always great to have the love of our furry loved ones. Have a safe and Happy 4th with your family. God Bless America !!
