Happy Friday, gang! Can you believe the dog days of summer have arrived? August is one of my favorite months despite the heat. There’s more than one birthday wish to extend to the Djalali family this month, and my wedding anniversary was celebrated on August 6th. And as bittersweet as it is we bid adieu to summer come Labor Day which in turn ushers in all things fall!
This year I am headed on a Mediterranean cruise that commences on August 21st. It starts in Venice, Italy, stops in Croatia, and ends in Athens, Greece. I’m traveling solo this time so it’s a big adventure for yours truly. Stay tuned to packing lists and “What I Wore” lots of fun coming your way and mine!
Today, we say hello to August

We are making Sgroppinos and a Zucchini Ricotta Puff Pastry
Today, Kelly and I are kicking off the weekend with a refreshing cocktail that includes lemon sorbet. And I love the appetizer which is a flaky pastry with zucchini and ricotta. Can you say yum?!
It’s been hot and hotter so I slipped into a striped halter from Talbots and paperbag shorts from Banana Republic to beat the heat in style. And I can’t sing the praises enough of Jack Rogers sandals that put a prep to my step.

(J.Crew)
Even though the August temperatures are predicted to be brutally hot, a Cashmere Tee is quite comfortable. Cashmere is a natural fiber so it has a high breathability factor. So even though this is a sweater tee, it's going to feel a bit more comfortable in the heat than a non-breathable synthetic fabric. That said, I might not wear this top if my plan is to spend the whole day out in the heat! But it's perfect for a quiet Friday afternoon at Beth's.

Today, I have paired my Cashmere Tee with the always-in-style Stretch Chino Short, both are from J.Crew and I think this combination goes together like peanut butter and jelly! I have several cashmere tees and chino shorts in a variety of colors, so this Cashmere Tee and Chino Short combination is an easy go-to outfit in the summer because I can mix and match the separates for new color combinations.

A Sgroppino is an Italian cocktail that is often served as a palate cleanser between meal courses. That fact makes this cocktail such a wonderful summer drink because it's refreshing and light. The main flavor component? Lemon sorbet!
I have made upside-down puff pastries before and it's always a gamble. Sometimes they puff up beautifully and many times they don't. Though I am never discouraged by puff failure, this one foiled me. I think my frozen puff was old...? I am no expert but I think this one would earn me some choice words from Paul Hollywood on Bake Off!
But you know what? it didn't matter because it was still delicious, and my results don't mean that yours will turn out the same. So I say, give it a go, and if nothing else, you'll have a delicious Zucchini and Ricotta flatbread. Plus, it's a great way to use your August Zucchinis!
Oscar, Ollie, Kelly and I wish you a lovely weekend!

I love July and August! Not only that i celebrate my birthday, but my daughter’s birthday, would have been my mother’s but several other loved ones in my family. My oldest brother August 12th and last wonderful days of summer. I hate Winter, why do I live in Minnesota? Family here and in Missouri. Have a nice day August 6th as you remember your wonderful past years with Mr Style.
Hi Ollie and Oscar.
Hi Ollie and Oscar.
Hi Sherry,
I’m laughing that you hate winter! That’s exactly why I don’t live in MN anymore.
Happy Birthday to you and yours this month of August.
Have a lovely weekend!
Y’all are just cute as buttons! That drink sounds yummy; can’t wait to try it. I must say, Oscar is looking great! The joint supplement is obviously making him look – and hopefully feel – younger. Have fun on your solo journey – can’t wait to read all about it when you return. Safe travels!
Oscar is living his best life! The Librela and joint supplements have breathed new life into him.
Can’t wait to share the cruise with you!
I want details and thoughts on your solo cruise! My husband & I loved cruising and I feel “ready” but don’t have friends who can/like to cruise. I don’t even go to restaurants alone yet (6 years into widow status) so I definitely need to hear how to do it.
I will definitely share all the details of the cruise and how it looks from a solo traveler perspective.
Have a great weekend!
Dear Beth and Kelly,
I’m late to the party but always love your Friday posts! Great halter top and JR sandals, Beth. Kelly’s recipes look delicious! And OSCAR, my man 🙂
Look forward to “cruising together” later this month (me, virtual, you, actual), Beth ~
Thanks, Carolina Girl! I hope you try this recipe! It’s soooo good!
Your posts brighten me every day!! I’m looking forward to hearing about your Mediterranean Cruise. My husband I went on an MCI cruise and it was incredible!! Take advantage of all the stops, hop on hop off bus tours and the food!
I bet you loved every minute of your cruise! I know I’m looking forward to mine.
