it’s friday! and we all know what that means. time to relax, unwind and catch our breath if only for a moment. oscar is ready to patrol roam his yard and mr. style is right behind him snapping pics.

i’ll be your tour guide today to point out our progress thus far with our yard.  since the temps are flirting with ninety, i grabbed a pair of scalloped shorts and linen top from Boden to keep me cool. and dusted off my jack rogers sandals. if you need a summer refresh, Boden has some adorable shirts and blouses. take a peek.

last year we removed a tree from our backyard to provide more sunshine to help our grass grow. this year it looks as if we’ll take down two more. after that task is completed, we’ll finally tackle our landscape. in the meantime, plants are hung to attract hummingbirds and butterflies and bird feeders are scattered around the yard to keep the squirrels and birds happy. but gosh darn it i wish those squirrels would let the birds have all the fun.

here’s a little herb garden i created last summer. bee balm, italian parsley, parsley, rosemary, thyme, and lavender are all growing in harmony.

one of my favorites – lamb’s ear – this is the giant variety. it’s already doubled in size from last year.

blue gingham seat cushions from Pier One replaced the grey plaid. pillows and cushions are an easy way to refresh your indoor or outdoor room.

the sectional also has a summer refresh with chambray pillows from Ralph Lauren.

this year we added a green rocker from Grandin Road for contrast. now when our kiddos are home at the same time, there’s no fighting over who gets what. funny how being around your parents reverts your behavior to childhood.

this is the first year i’ve seen this many blooms on our hydrangea. recently, we planted three more hydrangeas right beside this one.

an outdoor chandelier was a new addition this year. led or real candles can be used. i’m guessing mr. style prefers led. either way i love the ambiance it creates at night for an al fresco dinner.

What a wonderful yard! Congratulations to the squirrels, birds, and other animals that enjoy it there! We have a dog, Lulu, a “terrorior” mix and she loves
to lay on the glass tabletop..we don’t feel that’s quite right, but she’s a “blonde”, so…Have a wonderful weekend with your husband and Oscar and Ollie!

I was lusting after that green rocker before I saw you mentioned it! Very nice addition. You look like you’re keeping your cool.

Jealous of your warm weather. It was 48 this afternoon in the Cleveland area. This Houston, TX, Jackson, MS transplant really wants Spring to arrive for good up North!

It all looks great. We have several hydrangeas–2 different colors and a lace cap variety. I was told once, by a nice gentleman, when I mentioned that I was frustrated that it wasn’t blooming at first–with perennials, it’s often a case of: “first year, they sleep; second year, they creep; third year, they leap.” And so it goes–sure enough, we have tons of beautiful hydrangeas now. They also like coffee grinds and used tea bags for fertilizer, and it helps them bloom if you scatter those around the plants.

One of ours is pink/purple colors, (back yard) and one is blue (front yard). The lace cap is white with tiny lavender dots in the center that are beautiful. I guess our soils are acidic and more alkaline in the front and back yards!

Have a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend!
