Happy Valentine’s Day, gang! And of course, happy Friday! It’s always a busy week at Style at a Certain Age, and I am so ready for the weekend! Last week, Kelly and I went down to Florida for a really fun video shoot, though the temps were cooler than expected, we had a great time seeing the sights in 30A. Today, we have a great idea for brunch, with Coffee-Candied Bacon Brunch Sammies and a delicious Boozy Affogato, if you aren’t familiar with an Affogato, it’s espresso and vanilla ice cream. We have added bourbon and cognac for a delightful twist.

Entwined Heart Scarf | Banana Republic Lightweight Cashmere Crewneck | Chico’s Open Front Cardigan | Madewell Stovepipe Jeans in Black | Similar Blue Velvet Loafers
Every Friday, Kelly and I share easy-breezy casual outfits, and you can’t get more casual than a sweater and jeans, but go ahead and elevate your casual look for Valentine’s Day with a festive Entwined Heart Scarf from Talbots. A small flourish like a scarf worn as a neckerchief is an easy way to elevate the most casual of outfits.
I have been wearing these velvet loafers all winter, and though this exact pair from J.McLaughlin is sold out, there’s a similar pair, the Loraine Bit Loafer, which is one of my favorite styles from Sam Edelman.

Vineyard Vines Green Corduroy Pants | J.Crew Western Chambray Shirt | Heart Tee | Rothy’s Original Slip-On Sneaker
Happy Valentine’s Day! I am showing my heart on my shirt today with a cute heart tee. I have had this tee for years, so the exact version I am wearing is no longer available but there is a ringer tee from Anthro that is a close match. A Western Chambray Shirt as a light second layer as the temps begin to warm up is a perfect casual alternative to a cardigan.
If you love a casual low-profile sneaker like I do, there are few better options than Rothy’s Original Slip-On Sneaker. I love these sneakers, I have more than a few pairs in different colors and prints. They’re comfortable, go with everything and they’re machine washable!

Valentine’s Day Boozy Affogato
An Affogato is an Italian treat, espresso poured over vanilla ice cream. We have made an indulgent adult version by adding bourbon and cognac. A wonderful dessert drink, and perfect for brunch, our Boozy Affogato is the perfect complement to our Coffee-Candied Bacon Brunch Sammies.
Boozy Affogato
Ingredients:
- 2 oz. brewed espresso or coffee
- 1 oz. Bourbon
- 1/2 oz. Cognac
- 1 large scoop of vanilla ice cream
Instructions:

Valentine’s Day Coffee-Candied Bacon Brunch Sammies
We love a breakfast sandwich and while these Coffee-Candied Bacon Brunch Sammies go a little above and beyond your standard bacon, egg, and cheese, they’re so worth the extra effort! The coffee-candied flavor of the bacon is savory and sweet with a hint of smokiness and goes beautifully with the smoky flavor of the adobo mayo.
