spring is inching closer and our temps just might decide to match! either way, this girl is getting her spring game face on. it’s time to beat those winter doldrums with a fresh color palette and a little pattern mixing to boot. but a jacket is a necessity this time of year to keep the chill at bay. my favorites? trench coat, jean jacket, and utility jacket. these three wardrobe staples help me transition to winter/spring or fall/winter. today i reached for a Talbots green utility jacket that’s several years old. similar here and here. features that i look for in a utility jacket are a waist-defining drawstring and pockets. because we all know pockets make everything better.
this floral skirt from Boden is happy and bright. but the addition of yellow grosgrain ribbon around the waist is a lovely detail that makes this skirt sing. the fabric has stretch to it which keeps it comfortable yet retains its shape. what could be better for a form-fitting pencil skirt? a short sleeve breton tee gives this ootd some oomph and suede sandals help me step into spring in style. a bold lip color, cool sunnies and i’m ready to face the day!

Love this pairing so much. If you wore a higher shoe what color would you wear and what kind of shoe would you do! Pinned the top photo!
oh gosh, for whatever reason i always tend to wear flats with skirt like this. but try a pair of espadrilles or nude wedges.

This is first time I’m commenting, but I’m a regular reader. Love seeing what you’re wearing down south (I’m from up North). This is a great outfit and one I can totally see wearing with pieces I already have in my closet. Maybe with the addition of some nude fishnets- a find that helps smooth out my legs but without the pantyhose feel.
hi sue! it’s so nice to hear from you. love having separates in my closet so i can mix and match all season long.

Cute skirt, and it’s perfect with the jacket and fun stripes. I love the little details Boden is so good at. The grosgrain ribbon at the waist is so like them. The sun’s out here today and the temps are inching up–happy Wednesday!
i am just loving boden this spring, sue! they just add little touches here and there that make the item come to life.

Love this example of print mixing!! It’s a perfect transition to the warmer months with the jacket!!

it’s always a good day when you can throw a pattern mix together. even as a young girl i liked to mix things up. if only my mother had caught on how ahead of my time i truly was! she just thought i looked silly.

I saw your current read on the internet : would you consider doing a regular post of the books you read? I will be having the library ship that book in for me as it looked intelligent and substantive, just right for women of a certain age.
that’s a lovely suggestion, gina! i’ll see what i can do.

Beth, I just started following your blog, love your style. I have been looking at those sandals at Boden was wondering how comfortable they were. I have purchased some flats from them and they are a little on the stiff side.
hi velina!
the shoes do not have a cushioned footbed so your foot has direct contact with the leather sole. while i didn’t think they felt stiff they just don’t have any spring to them.
hope that helps!

Oh, how lovely! I love the pop of yellow 🙂
