the old saying ‘april showers bring may flowers’ hit close to home today as severe weather ripped through georgia. there was a lot of rain and a lot of thunder that rolled through town leaving behind lots of water drenched yards. but that didn’t stop mr. style and i from taking our photos. although, i’m guessing my footwear might change once i step outside. if i step outside…
as you can see the photo shoot was taken indoors as i wanted to share a style tip or two with you as i dip my toe into trendy waters. unless you have been living under a rock you know that statement sleeves are all the rage this spring. but i hadn’t pulled the trigger yet as i’m fairly certain this trend will come and go fairly quickly. but they are darn cute and could spruce up my spring wardrobe. that said, when considering passing trends i take several things into account.
style tip #1. when i’m indecisive about a current trend i typically head to a fast fashion store. or better yet, target, to find an affordable version of said fad without investing major cashola. and target was just where i found this trendy shirt with over-sized cuffs, cute button details, and is off shoulder to boot.
style tip #2. marry classic with trendy. that’s right, i try to sneak in at least one classic detail. this shirt actually has two. can you guess? yes, stripes, and in particular navy stripes are quintessentially classic.
style tip #3. anytime you wear something tight a.k.a skinny jeans pair it with something loose or flowing. this gives balance to your outfit and a bit of pizazz.
style tip #4. to tuck or untuck. now, that’s completely up to you. either way looks great!
there you have it, ladies, several ways on how i keep my wardrobe current and modern.

Hey Beth…..you and I are the same age, and I totally agree with you regarding fads. I’m not sure I want to invest in the Cold shoulder or off the shoulder….why buy when it will be gone next year! I follow you because of the fact that you wear the best classic clothes. Thank you so much. I check in on you everyday!
I agree about that cold shoulder trend—not too many of us at that “certain” age can pull it off.
Great tips and I would add one more: Make sure those sleeves aren’t adding bulk in an area where you don’t want it. For example, if you carry your weight in your hips and thighs, you don’t need bell sleeves adding more bulk to that area. If you carry weight in your bust, you don’t want sleeves that end at your bust line or widen out there. I know what you are saying about trends—don’t spend much on them because they don’t last.
Love the shirt…can’t go wrong with blue and white stripes. The shoes are perfect for spring and on into summer. xoxo
Love the blue and white combo and indoors is not too shabby either!-Laurel Bledsoe
cute top! I like that it’s not too off the shoulder–sometimes, when I’m trying on a trend, I’ll think “is this really age appropriate for me?” and when I find myself asking that, the fact that I’m asking it usually makes me think twice. I’d wear that, though–I like it!
Love your looks!
