I’ll never stop preaching that an amazing (and consistent!) skincare routine, and a healthy lifestyle, are two of the surefire ways to look as youthful as possible. However, a few makeup tricks can also be just as helpful when it comes to turning back the clock a little on our faces! So today, I'm sharing 5 simple beauty tips to look younger.
Some would assume that throwing on a ton of makeup to conceal those age spots is the trick. Or that ignoring makeup altogether once you hit a certain age is best. I’d strongly disagree with both schools of thought.
I’d argue that a clean, bright, makeup look that has some much-needed color injected into an aging face, is what can make all the difference.
The contents of your makeup bag can have very powerful age-defying properties when worn together to feel your most radiant. Read on for some of my favorite tips and products to help you look as young as you feel…

Add a Retinol and/or Hyaluronic Acid to your skincare routine. I can’t talk about how to get your best skin possible without mentioning two of the most important anti-aging skincare ingredients I’ve been using lately - Retinol and Hyaluronic Acid.
Broken down as simply as possible here’s what both do…
Retinol is a derivative of Vitamin A which is known for boosting collagen production and cell turnover. It tightens the skin by clearing away those dead skin cells that are the cause of uneven skin texture. *Retinol can be very potent, so proceed with caution and start with a lower concentration until you realize how much your skin can handle.
I have been using the Sunday Riley A+ High Dose Retinoid Serum, $85, for over a month now and am in love with the results so far. I can definitely notice a smoother skin texture that feels slightly firmer than before use. I started off with only twice a week at night, but have bumped up to 4 times now that I know my skin can handle it.
Hyaluronic Acid is a sugar molecule naturally produced in our bodies that decreases as we age. HA likes to bind to water, making it an ultra hydrating substance. Think of it like a lubricant for your skin and invites in to lock in moisture which is what gives plump, cushioned, and more hydrated skin. That’s a win for me!
I am loyal to the very affordable The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 serum, $15. Just read the reviews of this product and you’ll see why it’s so popular - besides the price tag.
Use The Concealer! Too many times I hear, “Concealer makes my crows feet look worse, so I won’t wear it!” Okay, well that may be the case if you’re not hydrating your under eyes and you’re applying too much product. But on the flip side, dark sunken-in under eyes look way more aging that a little makeup in a wrinkle.
The goal with concealer is to brighten and lighten that under eye bed. Beware of too light of a concealer shade though, and find one that is closer to your actual skin tone. Most of us can benefit from a pinker or peach based concealer if you are fair to medium skin toned. And for darker and deep skin tones, an orange based concealer is best.
I am using the Benefit Boi-ing Cakeless Waterproof concealer lately, in shade 4.25, and it is AH-Mazing with the coverage and does not budge. A little goes a long way which is great.
Pro Tip: Work in thin layers with your concealer, apply AFTER your foundation, and use a brush instead of your fingers to buff in the product. Then use a tiny amount of setting powder to keep it in place and not running around.
I absolutely love to set my concealer and the center of my face with the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finishing Powder, $46, which literally gives airbrushed makeup vibes using very little product! I love love the blurring effect it has. I’m wearing shade medium 2 here.
Avoid Using Darker Eyeshadow. The darker shadows, although very sexy with a smokey eye, can accentuate lines around the eyes and shrink the look of eye beds. So I recommend selecting shades with nice amounts of pigment, but on the softer side with browns and taupes and even a little shimmer is okay!
I can’t get enough of the ColourPop Stone Cold Fox palette, $35, used in today’s look. It’s got some of the most beautiful and wearable soft shades that blend so easily. And when I apply shimmer, I recommend only placing them in the areas of the eye that have no lines - like right in the center of the lid to add a little sparkle without accentuating lines.
Blushed Cheeks Are Younger Looking Cheeks! Do not underestimate the power blush can have when it comes to looking more youthful. Cheeks with zero color, look dead and sad. But cheeks with a hint of color look happy and healthy!
I am a big fan of the Patrick Ta Major Beauty Double Take Cream + Powder Blush duo, $34, because it gives you options depending on whether you want a flushed creamy cheek or a quick powder blush! The colors also work seamlessly together to give a longer-lasting cheek look. I’m wearing the shade, “She’s That Girl,” which is a soft pink with a punch! Seriously check this product out if you need a new blush because it gets a solid 4.9 stars out of 5 on Sephora!
It’s no big secret that our lips thin as we age, but we can give them the illusion of being a bit fuller with the right makeup tricks.
How to use: Just over-line the upper lip in between the cupids bow only, to make that top lip look fuller. Then do the same over lining just in the center of the lower lip where the lip naturally folds under.
Line exactly on the exterior of the lips on upper and lower lip then buff in that line with the included brush on the end of the liner (my favorite attribute of this product!) to keep the line soft and not as noticeable.
Then add a similar shade of gloss to match your liner - I am on like tube #5 of the Revlon Super Lustrous gloss in shade “Rosy Future”, because it’s just the most beautiful neutral gloss I’ve worn for years! It immediately catches the light and gives the illusion of a fuller lip surface.

What is the lipliner product in this post? There is not a link or mention of the product name. I so appreciate the advice.
Hello Darcy! I can’t believe I forgot to put this exact liner in the post – thank YOU for bringing it to my attention. It’s my current favorite lip liner + color – It’s by Buxom Cosmetics in “Hush Hush Henna” which is a beautiful cinnamon nude shade.
