At Style at a Certain Age, we believe that a life well-lived is one filled with moments of joy, reflection, and a touch of elegance. Few things embody this philosophy better than curling up with a good book, a warm cup of tea, and an effortlessly stylish outfit. Let’s explore how these three simple pleasures come together to create a lifestyle that is as enriching as it is chic.
Books: Escaping into the Pages
Books are the ultimate escape. Whether you’re a fan of classic literature, contemporary novels, or inspiring self-help reads, there’s a book for every mood and moment.
Seasonal Reads: Cozy mysteries in the winter, breezy romances in the summer, or thought-provoking memoirs year-round—let your reading list complement the season.
Creating a Reading Nook: Transform a corner of your home into a serene reading space. A plush armchair, a soft throw blanket, and a side table for your tea make for a perfect setup. Add a stylish lamp for ambiance and practicality.
Book Recommendations: If you’re looking for inspiration, consider classics like Pride and Prejudice, contemporary hits like The Night Circus, or motivational reads like The Gifts of Imperfection by Brené Brown.
Tea: A Warm Hug in a Cup
Tea isn’t just a beverage; it’s an experience. From the ritual of brewing to the comfort of sipping, tea brings a sense of calm and refinement to your day.
Types of Tea for Every Mood:
Morning boost? Go for a bold Earl Grey or energizing green tea.
Afternoon pick-me-up? Opt for a fruity herbal blend.
Evening relaxation? A soothing chamomile or lavender tea is perfect.
Stylish Tea Accessories: Upgrade your tea ritual with elegant mugs, a charming teapot, and beautiful coasters. Don’t forget a vintage tea tray for serving in style.
Pairing Tea with Your Book: Match the flavor of your tea to the theme of your book. A floral tea pairs beautifully with romance novels, while a smoky Lapsang Souchong complements a thrilling mystery.

Style: Dressing for the Occasion
Even in the comfort of home, dressing well can elevate the experience of reading and sipping tea. Comfort and elegance go hand-in-hand when you focus on timeless, cozy pieces.
Cozy Chic Outfits: Think cashmere cardigans, soft leggings, or a flowy maxi dress layered with a lightweight scarf. Slippers with a touch of glam, like faux fur or metallic details, complete the look.
Accessorize Thoughtfully: A delicate necklace, statement reading glasses, or a stylish headband can add a touch of personality to your ensemble.
Layered Textures: Incorporate textures like knits, silks, and velvets to create a luxurious yet relaxed vibe.
The Art of Slow Living
Books, tea, and style embody the principles of slow living—a lifestyle that prioritizes mindfulness and intentionality. Taking time to savor these simple pleasures allows you to reconnect with yourself and appreciate the beauty in everyday moments.
Create a weekly ritual: brew a pot of your favorite tea, don your most comfortable yet chic outfit, and escape into the pages of a book. Whether you’re diving into fiction or exploring a new subject, this ritual can become a cornerstone of self-care.
Closing Thoughts
Books open our minds, tea soothes our souls, and style expresses our essence. Together, they create a harmonious trifecta that elevates daily life. As we embrace the beauty of age and experience, these timeless pleasures remind us that elegance and joy are found in the little things.

This post was 100% perfect for me! As a Brit, I’m a daily tea drinker. And I love reading. Pair the two, with the cozy blanket in a comfy chair in a peaceful reading nook, like you say, and it’s heaven on earth!
Loved The Women by Kristen Hannah, one of my favourite books of 2024. The Vietnam veteran nurse storyline paired really well with The Wives by Simone Gorrindo, a memoir from the wife of an Afghanistan vet. The Women was my favourite of the two, if someone only has the time for one of them though.
Hi Beth!
