hello monday! hello may! don’t you just love this time of year when the first blush of spring is in motion? the birds are singing, the bees buzzing, and those flowers are blooming! i hope you had a chance to read Marlene’s Saturday Post that touched on flowers. it’s fitting that Mother’s Day falls in this luscious month. what mother doesn’t love a fresh bouquet of flowers? it’s been said that every sentiment imaginable can be expressed with a single flower. love, friendship, admiration, joy, empathy. once you understand the language of flowers, you can experiment with friends and family to take your communication in a whole new direction. many of us know that a red rose symbolizes enduring passion. but what about a dahlia? this flower demonstrates the lasting bond and commitment between two people. or a hydrangea? this flower symbolizes gratitude. and sunflowers? this cheerful yellow bloom means happiness. thanks, april, for those showers that bring us, may flowers. it’s only fitting my outfit gives a subtle nod to this glorious month with floral pants, graphic tee, and denim shirt.
the countdown is on for the bathroom renovation to come to an end. honestly, it’s been pretty painless except for the fact that half the house is a complete mess! my closet is storing the light fixtures, wallpaper, and future storage solutions. every time i turn around i bump into something or worse, can’t find something… the guest room is housing bits and pieces of the master bedroom. and the main bath has taken the brunt as it’s pulling double duty for two bathrooms…, but this too shall end. once the dust settles, i’m headed to Tybee for a much-needed beach vacay! i can already hear the surf rolling onto the shore. can you say excited?! if you follow me on Instagram, you can catch all the behind-scenes of the beach, beach house, and a restaurant or two.
who doesn’t love a casual chic ootd? many of us have been living in loungewear, athletic wear, or grunge wear this past year. if you’re ready for a change, a pair of utility pants might be of interest. they’re lighter weight than blue jeans and come in a variety of colors or patterns. in my mind, they’re similar to chinos, and i always have white and khaki chinos hanging in my closet. since i love pattern i decided floral pants (limited sizes similar here and here) from Anthropologie would be a nice wardrobe addition. the button front and patch pockets are the details that add personality. a graphic tee also from Anthropologie (sold out, similar here, here, and here) was the perfect companion to the floral chinos. but if the weather is still nippy in your neck of the woods, a denim shirt is the perfect third layer. tuck it or tie it. try it. it works!
this is the time of year to lighten and brighten, so i swap my leather handbags for wicker or straw. nothing screams summer more than a wicker handbag (old, similar here and here) or straw tote! since my outfit is anchored in blue, i couldn’t resist wearing my blue suede shoes. so don’t step on them! all in all, the casual ootd is perfect for a spring day. sunglasses are Tory Burch (old, similar here)

thanks so much for taking time to do this for me! i so appreciate all of your support!
Loving the handbag in particular today! Idea/request for a future blog post – summer handbags. I found it interesting you said that you swap leather for wicker or straw in the summer. Even cream leather? I must admit I have a slight paranoia about wicker/straw handbags after a wonderful day out at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in my late teens – my friend was wearing a beautiful chiffon dress (late 90’s) and carrying a wicker/straw bag. The look was adorable, but by the end of the day, the bag had snagged her dress several times. Was it just a bad bag? Or the wrong combination of fabrics? I’ve been shy of wicker/straw bags since then but love the look of them, and am in the market for a summer bag this year.
i do carry leather handbags in the summer. white or cream are great examples. i think it was a bad handbag. i haven’t had that happen
and i own several varieties of wicker. i’d try one on for size. i’d be surprised if you hit a snag! (couldn’t resist)!
I also left a testimonial on Sephora Squad. I said that looking through the head shots, you were the only one who represented me. That you were relatable and taught us how to become the best version of ourselves. Isn’t that the whole point of wearing makeup? Good luck, Kristine
thank you so very much! i so appreciate you taking time to do this for me.
Your post is never boring. I think this is the year I will go floral pants. I love this look. Definitely support you.

I’m hoping the dangerous weather this afternoon didn’t personally impact you and yours! Reading the blog and watching the weather channel.
it hasn’t impacted Athens yet, but we’ve had the tornado sirens go off a few times. not to worry as i grew up in tornado alley and our neighborhood in Katy, TX was impacted by a severe tornado that made CNN nightly news. never a dull moment in Spring. thanks for asking!
