did you know that the month of june is named after the roman goddess juno goddess of marriage? which may be one of the many reasons june is a popular month for weddings. another reason, at least in the northern hemisphere, is that the weather is absolutely delightful. it’s warm. but not hot. and not too humid. and arguably a perfect month for an outdoor wedding. nowadays, the trend of organizing outdoor weddings is gaining in popularity. weddings set on the beach, or a mountaintop, garden or even one’s backyard does not have the formality of a traditional wedding. due to the casual nature of an outdoor venue, everything from decorations to wedding attire has a more relaxed vibe. even when it comes to choosing a mother-of-the-groom dress. and i couldn’t be happier to partner with david’s bridal today to show you a lovely dress tailor-made to wear to a casual outdoor wedding affair.
so how does one choose a mother-of-the-groom dress? well, it helps to plan several months ahead. and there’s no such thing as overcommunication. traditionally, the MOB will purchase her outfit first then let the MOG know what she’s wearing. so why not honor that tradition? then it’s a good idea to consult the bride to find out if there are any specific guidelines as to what to wear. once you know the bride’s wishes the next things to consider are the date, venue, and the formality of the wedding. last but not least make a date with the MOB to coordinate your dresses. after all, there will be many photos taken of the bridal party parents and all, and you want each of your dresses to coordinate beautifully with each other and the bridal party.
knee length dresses are perfectly acceptable, especially for an informal wedding. if the venue is an outdoor setting, the color scheme might take its cue from nature with pinks and corals. while the MOB and MOG have the option of matching the bridal party by wearing the same color if you choose to coordinate your dress instead of matching the design team at david’s bridal helps narrow your choice by creating coordinating color palettes. don’t you love help from the experts?
once the color scheme is chosen the next thing to take into consideration is fit and comfort. it’s going to be a long day. you’re going to be on the move and on your feet. and lots of photos will be taken. so choose your dress and shoes with this in mind. this textured v-neck dress has a hint of stretch to it. and i love the addition of chiffon cape. block heels are a perfect choice if the venue is set in a garden. there’s no need to fear your heel will get stuck in the grass. plus, block heels are on-trend and ever so comfortable. did you know that david’s bridal also carries shoes? well, they do. as a matter of fact, they offer a full line of accessories from dresses, shoes, lingerie, jewelry, stationery, absolutely everything you might need for the big day. and more.
last but not least, don’t forget to add a few simple accessories. a flash of glitz with these earrings and bracelet are just the tickets for this casual chic dress. and a clutch handbag will carry all your essentials like lipstick and tissues. yes, you just might cry tears of joy at your son’s wedding. what a happy day!

but what if the wedding is a more formal affair held in a religious setting? or possibly a glitzy reception is being planned? the formality of the ceremony or venue dictates the length of your dress. and a formal wedding requires a full-length dress. a fun and decidedly different option is a tea length silhouette which not only shows off a fab pair of shoes but gives ease of movement throughout the day.
these shoes lend a feminine flair to their laser-cut silhouette. a crystal embellished shoe is the perfect partner to a subtle but sophisticated gown. not only do they match perfectly with the dress but with the crystal minaudiere as well.
the flowing ball gown skirt is both elegant and dramatic. and the sterling silver color is perfectly suited for a formal affair. but what i love the most is the lace off the shoulder bodice that adds a hint of femininity to this dress and adds timeless elegance. but don’t forget to add a hint of drama with starburst crystal teardrop earrings.

Beautiful dresses! I am particularly drawn to the skirt on the more formal dress. You look fabulous in both…truly magical… xoxo
absolutely loved this high/low hemline donna! it added a hint of drama to this elegant dress.
xoxo
These are both gorgeous dresses and you look so elegant and beautiful in them! Makes me want to buy them now even though my sons are still in their teens and marriage is a long way off! ☺️You are stunning!
hi cathy! thanks so much for stopping by. i loved both dresses even though they were so different from each other. and i have to share they were equally as comfortable to wear. this post was so much fun to put together. and i’m happy to hear you enjoyed it.

After being the MOB twice…years ago…I am looking forward to enjoying the MOG spot when the time comes for our baby, the only boy. How dapper he will look in a tux…he has got the rugged, yet boyish Paul Newman look. As in all our choices, having a plan, working it and then moving on with confidence is refreshing. You look lovely and I bet you too are looking forward to some MOG days! -Laurel
can’t wait until one of my sons ties the knot! not only will it be a happy occasion, but there will be another female added to our roster! sounds like you are looking forward to that day too!

Absolutely inloved with the second dress. So fancy and chic.
isn’t this silver dress divine, maria? and it moves beautifully. what a fun post to put together! and i can’t wait for one of my children to tie the knot so i can slip into a beautiful dress for the occasion.

Very pretty–each look is lovely. I have a wedding and dress rehearsal I’ll be heading to soon–I got a few dresses that I just love–c’mon, more people–get married so I can wear these more often! 😉
I like your hair, too. Enjoy!
sue, i was excited to see tea length gowns with a high/low hem were back! i distinctly remember playing barbies as a young girl and she had a dress just like this.
well, at least you have one wedding to attend. there’s nothing like a june bride and happy occasion.
xoxo
Fabulous post! Great tips! I love both dresses, but the second is my favorite. Your hair looks fabulous too!
hi amy! mr. style loves my hair like this, too. and i agree with you, the tea length gown is divine. once you slip it on you know you’re headed to a special event.
xoxo
The second dress is EVERYTHING! You look so elegant in both. Hoping to have my second/last MOB “job” in the next year. Did you give us a little hint that you may be in MOG business before long?
hi terry! unfortunately, no engagements here at the djalali house. but i’m certain we will have a wedding sooner rather than later! i can’t wait.
xoxo
Looking gorgeous, love the second dress and your hair&make up !
