one of my mother’s favorite sayings was “it’s five o’clock somewhere in the world.” and it just so happens that cocktail hour is a favorite time of day for me. it’s a chance to unwind, fill in my husband, or friends, on what’s transpired that day, and linger over a glass of cabernet before dinner. oft times, it’s drinks at home, but if i’m heading out the door i want to look chic, but still be comfortable. since i’ve had a number of requests from readers that i wear a top that conceals rather than reveals our tummies – this post is for you. today’s ootd is a simple pair of leggings and ruffled blouse that’s a perfect combo for hiding figure flaws. i popped a blazer over the top, because, well, as we all know i’m a big fan of blazers, and i sneak them in as often as i can. horizontal ruffles visually elongates my torso, hides my mid-section, and adds a touch of femininity. you can’t beat leggings as far as comfort goes (elastic waistbands are heavenly) and are perfect anytime of year in san francisco’s micro-climate. but most venues are air-conditioned these days, and tend to be a bit chilly, so this outfit could work in most cases. a wristlet clutch is perfect for cocktail hour as it allows me to have both hands free for a drink and an hors doeuvre. high heels and a little bling on my wrist, and i’m ready to sit back and relax.
