Getting the Most out of Your Wardrobe with the Rule of 3

Happy Monday, gang, from rainy Georgia! Yes, it’s been rain and more rain which is typical this time of year. It’s a good thing I have an umbrella and galoshes at the ready because I’ve had to step into them a couple two three times this winter… Luckily the last photoshoot was clear skies and sunshine. Can’t wait for that weather to return.

But I digress. Today’s post is all about the Rule of 3. It’s a smart way to shop whether that’s in your closet, online, or in stores. A working wardrobe has to do just that – work. It’s all about versatility and a bang for your buck.

Next time you’re putting together an outfit take it apart piece by piece and think of three different ways to style each item. That’s when your creative juices start to flow and you allow yourself to step out of your style box.

1. Fringe Tweed Shell

Today’s OOTD is casual chic at its best. It starts with a tweed shell from Ann Taylor that’s definitely business appropriate. I’ve styled it two different ways in the past two weeks but this look is my favorite. Y’all know I’m a big fan of faux leather pants (they’re a lovely alternative to denim) so I thought this navy and black tweed shell would look mah-va-lous paired with black faux leather pants from J.Crew.

Since the temps are on the chilly side thanks to old man winter I layered a white shirt underneath.  Tuck the shirt in or leave the tails out. Don’t you just love choices?

3. Muriel Tote Tumbled Leather Black

A pair of black slingbacks (similar here) is the perfect addition if you’re looking for an elevated look. Or grab your favorite pair of boots for a more rugged look. Either way works! A black handbag with a bamboo handle from Frances Valentine completes the look.
