healthy homemade granola

the weekend has arrived! let the festivities begin. a dear friend from my san francisco days is stopping by this weekend with a friend which means the house gets a thorough once over. fresh flowers, clean linens, and stocking the fridge are priorities. healthy snacks too. it’s important to have the right choices on hand, so we don’t make the wrong choice. quality counts, whether it’s our clothes or what we eat. so i whipped up a batch of healthy homemade granola to have on hand for breakfast or a snack. it’s a keeper! and i love to start my day with a cup of coffee. café americano is my favorite! so that’s what’s on deck this week for fridays with oscar. come join us. oscar’s buddy pax stopped by this week, so there was lots of romping and tussling. it was hard to wrangle oscar for his weekly gig! never a dull moment at the djalali house.

july is winding down, ladies! it’s been a lovely month with fireworks, barbecues, baseball games, and of course, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale when i zipped to atlanta with my DIL for a fun day of shopping. august looks promising as i head to tybee for a long relaxing weekend before celebrating not one, not two, but four birthdays! stay tuned.

wearing so many neutrals the past few weeks, it was time to unleash my preppy side. i’m always a sucker for whimsical chinos, and this parrot print from Talbots (limited sizes, similar here and here) was the perfect place to start. a knit shell from Frances Valentine is perfect to wear solo like today or layer underneath sweaters and blazers on our horizon. love the vibrant shade of blue! beaded hoop earrings and stacked bangles pick up the color palette from the chinos and sweater. the reversible belt reinforces the casual, chic, preppy vibe. and i always say every woman needs a pair of red shoes (old, similar here and here) in her closet. they’re just dang fun to wear!

i always start my day with a cup of coffee. sometimes two. one of my favorites is café americano. legend has it that during WWII, american soldiers stationed in italy weren’t fond of italian espresso. it was too strong for their taste. the remedy was to add hot water to their shot of espresso. voila! café americano was born. the drink is always served black, but i add oat milk to mine for a milder flavor.

healthy homemade granola

it’s important to stock up on healthy snacks, especially when guests arrive. sometimes our body just needs an energy boost before the next meal. reaching for the right foods is an essential part of healthy eating. when i have time, i love to make healthy homemade granola packed with nuts and seeds. grab a handful for a snack or sprinkle it over yogurt (i use coconut yogurt from Trader Joe’s that is dairy-free). it’s sure to be a hit and can be stored in an airtight container for two weeks.

oscar, pax, and i wish you a lovely weekend!

Good morning — and it will be a good morning in your house with the homemade granola. Just so folks don’t get confused, the ingredients list “pumpkin” but you mean “pumpkin seeds.”
The outfit is really cute! I don’t have enough confidence to wear parrots yet — maybe one day, but everything works together on you!

    1. thanks for letting me know i forgot to add “seeds” thanks for stopping by!

    1. oops! sorry about that! 1/4 cup coconut oil. i buy mine in packets and i used four.

    Hi Beth!
I have these chinos and finding them at $19.99 was a bargain I couldn’t resist! The parrot print is fun but not all see them as birds! My four year old grandson said “Nana, why do you have funny hammers on your pants?”😳
Oscar and Pax are looking in tip top shape.
    Enjoy your weekend friends!

    1. children are so precious! happy weekend!

Oh my! The granola looks delicious. I see some maple syrup in the picture of ingredients. Is that used in this recipe? I will have to try the coconut yogurt too. Love TJ’s.
Your outfit is smashing! Have a good visit with your friends, and can’t wait to see pictures of your Tybee vacation.

    1. i had picked the maple syrup up on my Trader Joe’s run and accidentally placed it with the ingredients. it doesn’t belong in the recipe.
      have a great weekend!

Been making my own muesli for a couple of years, but your granola sounds delicious, think I’ll be giving that a go. We always refer to an espresso made by the Nespresso machine as a ‘George’ after George Clooney. Sadly he doesn’t come with the machine!

    1. love muesli! when we lived overseas that was a go-to breakfast for me. for some reason, i think it tastes better in faraway lands.

    Hi Beth,
Love the outfit — very cheery! Also love the way Oscar has parked himself firmly on the rug. Thanks for all your very practical and wise advice. I always look forward to seeing what you and the doggies are up to.
    Cheers,
    Helen

    1. isn’t oscar a hoot? he did not want to have his photo taken!

Your granola sounds and looks delicious. I always have multiple varieties of trail mix and granola in the house for snacking or a portable lunch. I’m crazy for nuts, seeds, dried fruits and coconut.

Your outfit is darling, head to toe. Love the whimsy of the chinos. Your blender and dish towel are perfect red accents! I’d like to kiss and hug the doggies. (My cats should be bald with the way I’m constantly “mauling” them.🤗)

Please don’t bake the seeds anymore, they are healthier without baking. A lots of vitamins are destroyed and the fat oxidised. I love your outfit, you are a beautiful lady.

Love the granola recipe, Beth. I made it and added dried cherries. Now . . . To stop eating it.

    1. it’s good stuff! i’ve added chocolate before but the dried cherries sound delicious!
