Happy Thursday! I absolutely love matching sets for a few reasons, and one of them is the bang you get for your buck. Matching separates give us the simplicity of a one-and-done outfit, plus you can mix and match the pieces with other items in your closet. Another bonus is that if you love the look of a jumpsuit or romper, but don’t like the bathroom hassle, matching separates are the solution.
Today, Kelly shares how to Make the Most of Matching Separates

(J.Crew)
While I love linen in the summertime, crepe de chine is such a great summer fabric because it's so light and airy. The striped Pleated Skirt and Sheer Popover Top from J.Crew are not sold in petites so the length of the top falls a little below my waist and the skirt falls just below my knee. I am wearing size 0 in both the Skirt and the Top.

The fabric is sheer and the skirt has a white lining. The top is not lined, but I don’t notice my nude-colored bra underneath at all. The blue stripes look navy from a distance but are actually a bright royal blue. If stripes aren’t your thing, or if you feel the white is too sheer, each piece also comes in brown with butter-colored polka dots which is very on-trend for summer 2024.

I love the pleat detail of the skirt, the pleats create a lovely drape and give the skirt great movement and enhance the light and airy feel. Since the top falls a little below my waist, the ensemble reminds me of a drop waist dress with a slightly retro silhouette, which I really like; it’s a little sporty with an easy elegance.

The Open Weave Foldover Clutch is also from J.Crew. I purchased mine last year, and I am so glad they brought it back this summer. I love the open weave, it looks like caning. Another thing I really love about this bag is its versatility – you can fold over the top and carry it like a clutch, or you can carry it unfolded from the cutout handle at the top.

My block heel sandals are a few years old, from Madewell. Madewell carries a very similar version from Nisolo, the Stella Go-To Block Heel, or you could go for the Gwenn Block Heel Sandal.
