Midsummer Style in Black and White

And it’s Friday once again. Happy Friday, gang! It’s been a stormy night here in Georgia. I’d love to say the temps cooled down when the thunderstorms blew through town but alas they have not. Instead, the air feels steamier and muggier and I don’t even want to think about how the mosquito population has tripled in the wake of the storm. Minnesota who claims the mosquito as their state bird has nothing on Georgia. A girl can get eaten alive if not for bug spray. But the plants and grass needed mother nature’s helping hand and my sprinklers finally have a day off! Today we are sharing Midsummer Style in Black and White. 

So let’s get this weekend kicked off even if the sun might play hide and seek all weekend long. Kelly whipped up a peach burrata snack plate and we’re sipping a lemon, lime, and bitters cocktail. What’s better than that on a Friday?!

I slipped into a comfy, casual but cute outfit in a classic color combo – black and ivory. The barrel chinos are from Banana Republic and the bateau neck black tee is from Talbots. The braided leather sandals that come in three colors are from Ann Taylor who is having a terrific sale at the moment. Summer and sandals go together like strawberries and whipped cream. Am I right? So I rounded up a few of my favorites from Ann who truly carries a wide variety of shoes from sandals to pumps that are well made with one eye on the trends.

Kelly’s Outfit: Black and White Gingham

My top is from Ann Taylor, and it’s from last year, so I found the same top but in a different pattern at Ann Taylor. Though it’s polyester, it’s such an easy breezy top to wear. I love the collared style because it adds a little sophistication to an otherwise casual outfit. I found a similar style from J.Crew that features a true gingham pattern and is made from cotton poplin.

My shorts are also Ann Taylor, the Petite City Short also comes in two other, longer lengths: the Metro Short and the Boardwalk Short. All are on sale right now, so it’s a great time to stock up on these go-to summer shorts.

My platform slides are from Madewell, they are nearly sold out, with only a few sizes left. As a more upscale option, try the Tory Burch Patos Slides. Beth has these slides in Ivory and says they are very comfortable.

Lemon, Lime, and Bitters

Lemon, Lime, and Bitters is a refreshing summer drink popularized by golfers in Australia. Much like the Arnold Palmer, here in the States. And like the Arnold Palmer, you can add alcohol and make it a cocktail, or keep it a mocktail. We have added vodka to make it a cocktail. 

Peach Tomato Burrata Snack Plate

This is one of those great non-recipe recipes. It’s exactly like putting together a cheese plate or charcuterie board. Layers of peach, tomato, prosciutto, coppa, burrata cheese and fresh herbs are topped with olive oil, flaky finishing salt and black pepper.
