It wouldn’t be a vacation without time spent at the pool. Swimsuits are probably the most personal clothing item you can buy. If you’re getting vulnerable by showing some skin in a public setting, you want to feel 100% confident. Today, I'm sharing a swimsuit guide for 2023.
I know I know many of us groan when it’s time to go swimsuit shopping or have given up altogether. But take heart! I know there is a swimsuit that’s perfect for you. I’ve selected a pretty wide variety of swimsuits to inspire your shopping list, from full-coverage bikinis and one-pieces to a swimdress or swimskirt that offers a little more coverage. Remember, you don’t need a beach bod to go to the beach. Part of living a vibrant healthy life is heading outdoors when the sun is shining. I don’t know about you but I love to spend time by the pool or beach.
Swimsuit shopping can be anxiety-inducing, but it can also be really fun and energizing when you know what style fits you best. Personally, I think two-piece suits are easier to navigate than one-piece suits when it’s time to head to the restroom. Wet one-piece suits can be challenging at times, especially in the biff. I’ve struggled a time or two to get my wet once piece back in place.
J.Crew is definitely one of my favorite places to shop when it comes to swimsuits. First, they’re well-made and typically have a matching coverup to elevate your poolside chic factor. And they offer a wide variety of selections in solid colors or cheerful patterns.

I'm sharing a variety of swimsuits and coverups from my recent resort vacation

Whether you like to keep things simple with a lightweight dress or want every opportunity to show off your fashion sense with a fun, matching set, you can have a lot of fun with coverups for beach vacations.

You’ll be wearing your swimsuits the most, with coverups being a close second, so you want to have a few that you feel confident in while you traipse through the lobby (or from the pool to the bar for a bite to eat and the bar to the pool).
I have a variety of coverups on hand and I briefly mentioned a few when chatting about swimsuits. The sky is the limit when it comes to coverups from an oversized white shirt that can be worn with a swimsuit or denim to a caftan that’s truly elegant in its own right or the ever practical yet chic sarong that can be tied in multiple ways.
(J.Crew)
Last year, I purchased the striped swimdress that’s all sorts of fun to wear yet gives full coverage. I wear that suit with a white beach shirt coverup and navy bucket hat. This year, I couldn’t resist this festival pink o-ring top and full coverage bottom and matching sarong from J.Crew.

Several years ago, I purchased this leopard two-piece that’s still in stock. It is hands down my favorite suit. I also purchased the matching leopard voile beach shirt which is lightweight and perfect to throw on. But since this leopard swimsuit is still available this year I decided to add a bandeau top for variety.
Yesterday, I shared what I packed for my resort vacation. Click the title or image below to read the article.

Thanks for posting! All are great options and look beautiful. I was skeptical about your case for a two piece but that O-ring bikini looks fabulous on you! Not sure I am brave enough to try but you look like a million bucks!
Style is always what you feel comfortable wearing, but sometimes we can step outside our comfort zone and try something new.

Hi Beth, Thank you for the cute swimsuit options. You look terrific in each, and certainly help us “older girls” gain confidence and find comfort in our beach/pool style choices. I follow you religiously and have to say I’ve “upped my game” since finding you!! Thanks again!!
I’m so happy to hear this, Donna! That’s what the blog is all about. Thanks for stopping by!
You have mentioned that a one piece suit can be difficult to remove when going to the bathroom….for YEARS I simply pull my swimsuit over at the bottom to use the toilet. I have never had a problem using this method. Nothing gets on my hands or my suit. I suggest trying this method at home with your underwear first, but it’s very simple.
That’s a great tip that works 90% of the time. Thanks for sharing!
I have an extremely short torso, a muffin top and a very flat butt. Most one piece bathing suits are just too long and the elastic in the butt area just gaps open – very unflattering! Tankini’s seem to accentuate the muffin top. I am at a loss as to what swimsuit would work for me. We have a pool at home and a condo in the Cayman Islands so I have need of bathing suits. Please help!
Cheryl, I am also short waisted and have always worn one piece bathing suits…but had to try many in order to find one that wasn’t too long in the body (the Lauren brand has generally worked well for me). But last year I bought a 2 piece tankini style. I purchased the top in a size 8 (my usual size), but sized up to a 12 for the bottom. That eliminated the muffin top feeling for me!
I echo your endorsement of J Crew swimsuits. I have their one-shoulder suit, it is very comfortable and I think flattering. One thing, I usually need to go up a size in swimsuits but with J Crew, my best fit is my usual size.
