yesterday’s post was about neutrals in action for the weekend. today, we’re stepping into the workplace with neutrals in action for work. if you want a chic, elegant yet powerful look for the office, then it’s time to suit up. but it’s time to rewrite the rules. long gone are the days when suits were bor-ing. in 2021 it’s time to suit ourselves. no white after labor day? why not wear the same outfit on Labor Day and New Year’s Eve? and you don’t have to separate work and play. the two can seamlessly blend together. workwear doesn’t have to be uncomfortable, reserved for the office, incorporate pantyhose or shapewear. 2020 changed our perspective on our relationship to work and workwear. we can do our jobs and be comfortable. and we can look great doing both.
life should never be complicated. neither should our clothes. but when you’re wearing clothes you absolutely love – it shows. there’s a spring to your step and a smile on your face. clothes have a way of transforming us – want to feel like a badass? consider wearing red. or maybe you want to feel sexy (um, yes, there’s no age limit, and your husbands will thank you) with an off-the-shoulder top or dress? how about classy? a monochromatic number is just the ticket. no matter your shape or style, a monochromatic outfit always looks sharp. it’s a surprisingly easy yet sophisticated style that elongates your silhouette.
monochromatic dressing needn’t be matchy-matchy. separates of one color with different textures and similar shades, creating an overall tonal look is so 2021. wearing a single shade or color is a simple approach to putting an outfit together. in fact, when your overall outfit is within the same color hue, it’s just as striking as wearing a bold color. today’s ootd starts with a textured blazer from Ann Taylor with a subtle stripe, peaked lapel, and is fully lined. it can be dressed up with a pair of pants or dress for work or dressed down with blue jeans or shorts. today, i chose one of my favorite pants from J.Crew, the high-rise Cameron. these pants are a bestseller for a reason! they’re a great quality pant offered in five colors that fits like a dream. and J.Crew offers Petite, Tall and sizes through 24. can i hear an amen?! love these pants for a smart, sophisticated work outfit, but they look fantastic with a silk tunic or oversized sweater. a simple white tank from Commando is a perfect choice for summer. it fits seamlessly underneath the blazer. for work, add a pair of white pumps (similar here, here, and here) for an overall tonal look. but if you’re headed for an evening out and about, simply exchange the white shoes for silver pumps (similar here and here), add a necklace (similar here and here), and you’re good to go!

it’s wednesday, ladies, time to put a smile on someone’s face including yours.

I did not know that it was in style to match similar colors.
Thank you!!
I love the mono chromatic look. If it is all white, or black, or navy. Looks so classy and put together.
This post made me realize just how much I miss working…wait…just dressing for work, not working!! LOL! Seriously, these are great tips on the monochromatic look and how sharp it is. Thanks for the refresher!
Lovely outfit – particularly like the cut of those pants and how well they fit you. Shoes and purse are divine!
Hi there!
I am relatively new to your blog and am loving your style. I’m at a transitional time in my life where I hate everything in my overstuffed closet. I want to start reworking my wardrobe but have such a problem with shoes; actually my feet. I am your height, shoe size 10-10.5 but my feet are very arthritic and I have to be extremely selective with shoes. I need a wider toe box but actually have a more narrow foot. Your shoe selections always pull your outfits together so I’m thinking I need to start with my shoes and build from there. Do you have any recommendations for cute shoes for problem feet?
Thanks for sharing your fashion advice!

Fabulous outfit! I never think to wear monochromatic. I am looking at this blazer online, and it is on sale. Did you purchase your usual size? Wondering if my usual 4 would have enough room in the shoulders.
Thank you!
it fits true to size. but it’s double-breasted so not as tailored as a single-breasted blazer. i love both!
What amazing style and inspiration! I pinned this to four different boards: Business Chic, Minimalist Chic, Styling with Neutrals, and Monochromatic Styling. Really, just wonderful!
