a new fall collection just landed at Talbots and i think i’m in love. in love with all things parisian even though i’m american classic through and though. but it’s grand to find a little french inspiration now and then. in case you hadn’t heard they invented the breton tee and turned it into a classic. it started off as a uniform issued to all french navy seaman. orignally, there were twenty-one stripes stitched into the navy and white shirt: one for each of Napoleon’s victories. legend has it that if a sailor fell overboard, they could easily be spotted in the water due to their striped tee.
the infamous coco chanel took note introducing the first striped tee through her nautical collection in 1917. it was a bold move that broke women away from their heavily corseted look popular at the time. coco paired the first tee with long flared trousers introducing casual chic to the fashion world. there’s more than one cute striped tee or sweater at Talbots take a look here, here and here

today, i’m sporting my version of a casual-chic look that’s certain to beat those pesky monday blues. an a-line skirt that’s universally flattering anchors this nine-to-five outfit. but the star of the show is a tipped bow cardigan with a pearl button front and pockets.
red is unabashedly chic and a versatile color especially when it comes to accessories. this red camera handbag is proof. but i chose a pair of capped toe navy pumps to bring symmetry to my ootd. it ties in beautifully with the dot and stripe shirt.
i added a few extra pearls for good measure. and a soft lip shade – mango – that doesn’t compete with this bold power suit. did i mention that Talbots is offering 25% off your entire purchase? because they are. head on over to check out the entire collection that is très magnifique! stay tuned to the blog as i’ll be sharing more of my picks in the next few days.
happy monday, ladies!

I’d love this jacket with jeans! For once I am a tiny step ahead of your advice and just replaced my Breton. It’s about the only “print” I wear.-Laurel
Waiting to see how Beth styles it with jeans!
Love this outfit! You look tres chic…I can see this broken up into other stylings. Interesting story about the Breton tee. xoxo
If Talbots was smart, they would hire you to be one of their models. You reflect the refined, modern look that we women of a certain age love. Lovely, lovely, lovely.
Love this! Is there any more satisfying clothing shopping than fall??
Oh, such a pretty red! And the sweater details are wonderful–it really is very Chanel. What a great look. I agree that that jacket and skirt separately will make beautiful mixes with lots of other things. Yum!
Red is certainly your color – at least one of them!! A great way to perk up a Monday.
Love this jacket & skirt and also the shoes. Talbots is the best. The shoe link you provided is not for the ones you are wearing…yours appear to have a pointed toe. Can you please share info on them? Thanks!
I would have never paired this shirt with the suit, but I love it together! It’s so wonderful to learn new things. Thank you for the inspiration!
You look great. The suit looks so youthful on you. Talbots is smart to use you as there representative!
