it’s all about spring and summer jackets today. it’s funny, but as we slip into the summer months with temps heating up many of us forego spring and summer jackets. whenever i pop one on in july or august there’s bound to be comments or emails “it’s too hot for a jacket!” which leads me to believe there a few of us who think spring and summer jackets collect dust all summer long. of course, if you’re spending time at the pool, lake or beach or simply lounging on a chaise in the hot summer sun you’ll forego this essential third layer. i don’t know about you, but i spend many an hour inside office buildings, malls, restaurants or movie theaters come june, july, and august. and baby it’s cold in there! which is the number one reason i have a selection of lightweight spring and summer jackets hanging in my closet.
this week i thought i’d write a mini-series about spring and summer jackets, sharing my must-have’s with you. and we’re kicking it off with this adorable cotton casual jacket from Talbots. this spring summer jacket last seen here was hastily thrown over a sleeveless striped tee from J.Crew Factory and green utility pants (old, similar here and here) from Splendid as mr. style and i headed to dinner.

this spring summer jacket is unlined features four patch pockets and cinched back waistband. pop the collar or let it lie flat. either way looks great.
yellow is on trend this season. i can’t tell you how often i reach for these suede sandals (old, similar here and here) to add a pop of color to an outfit.

the “it” handbag this year is round.
a colorful scarf always adds a one-two punch of color to a spring summer jacket. this scarf is aptly named tossed lemons scarf. the ends are knotted for a casual flair.
thank you so much for all the lovely comments and emails you sent about our son’s wedding. it was a perfect day in every way. but even more so with all the love and well wishes, you sent our way. xo

Love all the pops of yellow. It is such a sunny color but I can not wear a lot of it with my coloring. Lovely as always.
then yellow sandals or shoes would be a perfect choice. they come nowhere near your face. xo
Hi Beth, loving the colour co-ordination on you, and I really love those sandles. As you know here in England we are used to layering clothes because our weather can and is so unpredictable at times even when it’s supposed to be Summer so I always have some sort of Jacket in the car to pop on. It was lovely whilst we were in Florida not to need one but the one thing I did have to carry with me was a shrug to put on when going into restaurants because of the air con which can be really cold. I’m sure they don’t need to have it as cold as they do. We have very few buildings here with air con so as you can imagine we aren’t used to it. I know your post keeps you so busy as we all appreciate and it’s something to look forward to every day to see what ideas and suggestions you have for everyone, but will we be seeing you on YouTube again if only occasionally ? Xoxo
yes, i will be on youtube again. we are adding a full-time employee who will help with all things youtube. stay tuned. xo
Good morning Beth, I agree with you conpletely, I cannot go into a grocery store with out a sweater or light jacket on. When you go into the mall some of the stores are so cold you cannot shop. You look fantastic as always.
i always have a third layer waiting in the wings. xo
The yellow scarf is a perfect complement to the outfit. Always enjoy your posts.
yellow is such a happy color. add lemons into the mix and you can’t help but have a smile on your face. xo
Really great outfit today.
thanks for stopping by, pam! xo
I agree with layers. There is nothing worse than trying to have a meal in a restaurant and being uncomfortable because the air conditioning is blowing on you.
I like the looks of the Talbot jacket so tried it on recently. I was very disappointed in the light weight as it was more like a blouse – really too light to call it a jacket. In addition, the price point was not appropriate for the quality. Talbots has always been a favorite but I feel their quality is suffering.
totally disagree with the jacket being more like a blouse. it’s a jacket in every which way. xo
Hello Beth I am new to your blog and I am obsessed!
I absolutely LOVE your style!
Thank you for all of your suggestions.

Cute, casual look — and you make it lots of fun with your accessories!
Beth, I was just looking at a post from September 2018, when you were in Florida! I need some ideas for vacation. You looked absolutely “Cool”, I loved the Anthropologie blouse and green shoes, and you straw bag with BAD monogrammed! I love following you!
I love your style! I agree with you about the need for a lightweight spring and summer jacket. I always have one handy for cool offices, restaurants, church, etc. I am loving the pop of color with yellow. I think I will add some yellow to my wardrobe!
You are the cutest!! I love this scarf so much!
