when the seasons’ transition from hot to cold it’s time to assess our wardrobe. what still fits, what’s still in style, how do i update my current items to stay fresh and modern? i don’t know about you but i want to age with strength, and grace, and beauty. because ageless style doesn’t have an expiration date. but we do have to keep up with current trends or we’ll look as if we’re stuck in time.
on my YouTube channel, i introduced a new series where i select five items from a specific brand. this is an easy way to incorporate trends into your existing wardrobe that helps our outfits stay current and fresh. this week i went shopping at Ann Taylor. this is what came home with me. don’t forget to watch the YouTube video at the end of this post to see how i styled each of the items.
moody florals with rich deep hues are trending big time this fall. you’ll see floral dresses, shirts, and skirts everywhere this year. i chose this floral stand collar slit-neck blouse due to the vibrant colors. and it has a matching skirt. when worn together you have a snazzy shirtdress. but since they’re separates they can be mixed and matched with other items in your closet.
i know, i know, we’ve been told over and over again that women of a certain age shouldn’t wear this and shouldn’t wear that. and many of us shy away from bold or large patterns. stick to your comfort level, ladies. if looking slim is your main objective definitely steer clear of oversized prints. but if you want to add a little punch to your wardrobe and stay on trend don’t be afraid to step outside of the box when it comes to style rules.
this floral scarf print pleated skirt is fun and flirty and feminine. and all of the colors are on trend so this skirt was a must-have for yours truly.
the next item that found its way into my shopping cart is a bow neck blouse. i chose a sleeveless blouse as the temps in Georgia are still in the eightes. but i love the fact this ivory shell will slip underneath a cardigan or blazer with ease. bow blouses are classics in my eyes. but they do tend to drift in and out of favor with the fashion powers that be.
animal print is hot and hotter this year. if you’re ready to take a walk on the wild side try this zebra print cardigan on for size. it’s the classic cardigan with a twist. and i love the classic black and white color combination.
there’s no quicker or easier way to update your wardrobe than with a pair of modern blue jeans. i get it, every time i wear a pair of distressed jeans on the blog there’s an uproar from the women of a certain age. but take heart. you don’t have to wear distressed jeans or jeans with holes or patches to step into the twenty-first century. instead, look for details that update jeans to stay fresh and current like a frayed hem, step hem, side stripes, high waist or in my case i love, love, love these sailor jeans with brass buttons.
happy sunday, gang! don’t forget to watch the YouTube video that introduces our new series Style Secrets where i take five new items and incorporate them into my classic wardrobe. there’s a recap of the outfits you’ll see in the video at the bottom of the post.

Absolutely love you and your video.
Loved the zebra cardigan outfit
Hi Beth…..Just love that zebra cardigan outfit! Black and white is always a winner with me. Keep up the great work.
The white bow blouse with black pants is my favorite look. You have a classic look and that outfit pops on you.
Great looks and tips. I do like the sleeveless top with the bow. I sometimes feel like a bow blouse makes me feel like I’m back in the ’60’s, but the sleeveless makes it fresh. And it spans seasons, which is always a plus in my book–with jackets, etc.
