White is a neutral that goes with anything and everything. It’s crisp and clean and perfect for a hot summer day. Growing up in the 60s and 70s, we were taught that white was worn from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Once summer was over, our whites were retired. This tradition dates back to the 19th century when affluent residents would get out of dodge in winter to vacation in warmer climates. Those who could afford winter vacations could wear white while the rest of the working population was excluded. It was a subtle “rule” to identify social class. Welcome to the 21st century when all sorts of “rules” for fashion are thrown by the wayside, including white after Labor Day. Feel free to wear white any time of year, including winter—one of my favorite ways is to wear white denim. Today, it’s all about how to wear white jeans in winter. How to wear white jeans in winter

• Wear white jeans with neutrals

Just this week on the blog, I wore not one but two outfits with white jeans. And I incorporated style tip #1 with both outfits. Yes, the best way to wear white jeans in winter is to pair them with neutrals. Of course, white looks fantastic with every color under the sun. But it looks trés chic with neutrals during the winter months. Think gray, black, camel, and navy. But don’t be afraid to add pops of color now and again. Red is always a good idea, especially on a dreary winter day.

Layer knitwear underneath a coat and add white jeans into the mix.  An easy style recipe that’s simple and chic is a sweater and blue jeans. Turtlenecks are a favorite of mine during the cold winter months, but slouchy sweaters have their time and place as well as crewnecks. Pick your favorite sweater silhouette in your favorite color, and add white jeans. Since it’s cold outside, don’t forget to pick your favorite winter coat! Wrap coats and Pea Coats are perennial favorites that never go out of style.
