valentines day is a week away but mr. style and i have reservations in the book for an elegant five-course dinner with live music. what’s on the menu? lobster bisque kicks off the first course. diver scallops with curried carrot puree and wilted spinach are my main course selection. and for dessert? strawberries with grand marnier sabayon and lady fingers or chocolate pots de crème with bailey’s whipped cream. i suspect mr. style and i will order one of each and share.
last year i was in new york attending fashion week on valentines day. one of our kiddo’s lives there so i whipped up a special meal for andrew and few of his buddies. i served mushroom lasagna; his roommate pete concocted the best caesar salad ever! i have the recipe handed down from his mom and dad. and i think i purchased a cake from the whole foods bakery department for dessert. the weather was brutally cold that evening but you’d never have known as our moods were light and bright!
as you can see i’ve already picked out my valentine outfit. a feminine pleated satin skirt by j.crew sets the tone. don’t you love the longer length? there are so many directions you can take this skirt by pairing it with a simple blouse or a cropped jacket. but i purchased this feather sweater over the holidays and thought it would add some flirty fun to this nighttime outfit. love the boatneck neckline that’s flattering to every woman alive. a simple pair of suede pumps by nine west and an envelope clutch by rebecca minkoff finish this ootd with flair. guess who lost her shoe during the photo shoot? the heel stuck between the planks. i actually had to slip it off to dislodge it. never a dull moment!

I love this navy blue outfit! The skirt is fabulous! I saw this in the store but it looks so much better on! ♥️
Great look, dressy, sophisticated and yet current. The shoes, glorious, I would die for sure! Here is my question of the day. Do you ever discuss undergarments? My friends and I got into this the other day because at our “certain age” things are shifting…down. I have bought and tossed probably 10 bras this year. What a horrible waste. Complicated by surgery, not cancer thankfully, I have one of the girls a little larger than the other. What is a lady to do?
That’s totally a look I’d sport. I have a couple of skirts in that exact same style–one’s kind of a Christmas/holiday look, and the other is a navy raw silk that I love. The sewn- pleats that soften beneath the stitched area are so feminine, I think, and I love the stripes! The sweater is simple with a fun touch, too. The only thing I probably wouldn’t wear is the shoes these days–I can’t do the heels, but they’re gorgeous on you, and the style are very much in line with things I have worn and loved. You look mahvelous! Happy almost-Valentine’s day! Enjoy that dinner–sounds excellent. Lovely look.
YOU ARE READY!
ADORABLE all the way down to your shoes!
I love this outfit! And the skirt is absolutely divine! I have to admit that lately I am very much into midi skirts. All the best Beth, Renata
Absolutely stunning … you will turn a lot of heads!
