Happy Friday, gang! And Merry Christmas! I’m certain everyone is in overdrive, like me, pulling the last-minute details together for the big day! I’m ready for our White Elephant gift exchange on Christmas Eve. For thirty years, I’ve served charcuterie boards for Christmas Eve, then switched gears for Christmas Brunch with our favorite casseroles from Skiers French Toast, Sausage Egg Casserole, and a Chocolate Chip Coffee Cake. Oh, and I can’t forget lox and bagel, along with a Bloody Mary and Mimosa Bar. Nothing fancy, just family favorites year after year. Today we are sharing an easy recipe for a holiday brunch, if that’s on your agenda this holiday week. We also have a really delicious Iced Egg Nog Latte! You can certainly make this a mocktail, but we added a little whiskey.

Beth’s Casual Holiday Brunch Outfit

Just like every Friday, today I am keeping my outfit simple, a casual outfit elevated by Velvet Pants from Frances Valentine. Velvet has the power to elevate any outfit and it’s so festive for the holidays. A Striped Tee topped with a Half Zip Sweater mixes casual comfort with elegant velvet pants to create a cozy winter ensemble.

IMG_8844

Add another festive element like gold block heel pumps and you’re set! These Mary Mini Block Heels are also from Frances Valentine, they’re nearly sold out in most sizes, so try the Vanessa Block Heel Pumps from Talbots if your size is sold out.

How could I pass up wearing bright red corduroys for our casual holiday brunch?! These Sailor Slim-Wide Pant in Stretch Corduroy are just the ticket for a casual yet festive holiday outfit. I have the chino version of this style from J.Crew, and I have to say that the corduroys are perfect for winter with their heavier weight.

A goes-with-everything grey Cashmere Sweater tops my cords, and don’t think you can’t mix candy apple red with rich maroon – these two colors are everywhere in 2024 and when paired, they bring out the best of each other.

Holiday Brunch: Iced Eggnog Lattes

This is such a fun way to enjoy eggnog! An Iced Eggnog Latte has such wonderful Christmasy flavors and makes a great brunch drink for a holiday brunch. You can make it as fancy as you like with whipped cream and flavored syrups, or just keep it simple and serve over ice.

Holiday Brunch: Hash and Eggs

This is a great brunch dish for a group because you can make everything but eggs, and keep them warm until you’re ready to make the eggs. And for the eggs, if scrambled eggs are preferred, go for it! This is supposed to be a simple and hearty holiday brunch dish – and it’a crowd pleaser, for sure.

Holiday Crab Cakes and a Festive Martini

TGIF, Ladies! It’s been quite a week – my basement renovation was finished last week, so this week I have been getting it in tip-top shape since it’s our new Style at a Certain Age studio and office space. Plus, I have been decking the halls with festive holiday decorations. If you want a peek at my holiday decor, check out How I am Decorating for the Holidays. We are one week closer to Christmas, so Kelly and I are whipping up festive appetizers and cocktails to inspire you this holiday season. Today we have Holiday Crab Cakes and a Festive Martini.

Beth's Casual Holiday Outfit

Fridays are all about casual weekend style and corduroys are so perfect for winter and the holiday season – they have the ease, comfort, and style of denim but are elevated with added warmth, texture, and festive color. They’re so easy to style with a variety of tops, including button-ups and sweaters.

Beth casual holiday outfit

These Mid-Rise Kick Flare Cords are from Vineyard Vines, and I love the pink color. While it’s always festive to wear something that incorporates the classic holiday colors, I think that if it puts a smile on your face, it’s festive and perfect for the holidays.

Kelly's Casual Holiday Outfit

As Beth said, you can’t beat corduroy in the winter, and it is such a great alternative to denim. With rich hues to choose from and styles that are comfortable and always in fashion, corduroy is one of my favorite winter fabrics. So today I am mixing things up with a Corduroy Mini Skirt from Madewell. This skirt is not sold in petites, so its length is a little longer than a mini – which is A-OK with me. I am wearing a regular size 0 and the fit is true to size.

Deep reds and browns are popular this season and are a perfect match! Recently, I sprung for my third pair of the Laguna Chelsea Boots from Sam Edelman because they are just so comfortable and practical for winter. The boots fit true to size, but if you want to wear thick socks, go for one size up.

Holiday Appetizer: Artichoke-Topped Crab Cakes

I love this recipe for crab cakes because they are baked, not fried. This detail means they are healthier, and they take less time and minimal effort to prepare. You can make them in a mini muffin tin for one-bite crab cakes – perfect for your holiday get-together!

Holiday Season Inspiration

Fa la la la la la la la! Yep, the holiday season is in full swing. I don’t want to scare you but it’s T minus 19 until Christmas Day, which means I only have 18 days to shop for all of my Christmas gifts. Yikes! This girl needs to step up her game. The SaaCA team has been gathering lots of great gift ideas. You can always bop over to my LTK Shop for inspiration.

ski sweater | Readers' Favorites 12/01-12/08

Kelly whipped up a charcuterie board today that is so easy to put together for a holiday get together and if you haven’t indulged in an espresso martini what are you waiting for? It’s one of my favorite cocktails all winter long!

‘Tis the Season!

Beth's Seasonal Outfit

How cute is this Ski Sweater (limited sizes similar here, here, and here) from Anthropologie?! Don’t kill me as this item is so popular there are only limited sizes available. But if I’m ever on the hunt for something a little extra, especially during the holiday season, Anthro is where I head. That store never disappoints!

Holiday Season Inspiration

I paired the sweater with festive plaid pants and red boucle shoes. It’s a holiday outfit without going over the top. Don’t be afraid to invest in plaid pants as they are just as versatile as any other pants you own. And don’t be afraid to color outside the lines when it comes to putting an outfit together.

My neutral grey ensemble today is a monochromatic mix of dark and light grey, and since grey goes with everything, each one of my separates today can be mixed and matched with anything else in my winter-season wardrobe.

Ina Garten’s Espresso Martinis

Ina’s Espresso Martini recipe is a classic! Her gold standard recipe for espresso martinis was originally written for a crowd, but I have modified it to make 2 cocktails. Using orange-flavored vodka really smooths out the espresso flavor to create a beautifully balanced cocktail that goes perfectly with the salty, mix found on a charcuterie and cheese board.

Description

Makes 2 Cocktails

Ingredients

2 1/2 oz. Chilled Espresso

2 1/2 oz. Orange Flavored Vodka

1 1/4 oz. Coffee Liqueur

Orange Peel for Garnish

Instructions

Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add the espresso, vodka, and coffee liqueur. Shake for 30 seconds, or until foamy. Strain into a chilled martini glass and decorate with the orange peel. Serve at once.

Holiday Charcuterie Board

There is no recipe today for this Holiday Charcuterie Board, Ladies! My strategy for putting a board together is to start with the cheese arranged around the board, and then fill in spaces with folded or crumpled cured meats. Like a puzzle, I then start adding all of the little extras like nuts and fruit, in the spaces that remain.

Holiday Charcuterie Board

Be sure to have a good variety of soft and hard cheeses; depending on the number of your guests, it's a good rule of thumb to start with 3 different cheeses. I like to have 2-3 different types of cured meats – salami, coppa, prosciutto... Don't forget to include something sweet like fresh or dried fruit. In the winter I like to have a fruit preserve on the board. Salty/Sweet nuts are a great addition to fill in spaces and add something with crunch to the board.

Holiday Charcuterie Board

Check out Beth's Instagram Reels today for a timelapse video of me putting this board together.

Happy Friday, gang! Or should I say Happy Black Friday? Guess who dressed for the part?! Thanksgiving is late this year, which is the official kick-off to holiday shopping, so it’s off to the races for Christmas and Hanukkah gifts. Back in the day, Black Friday was an event where retail stores opened their doors at midnight for Black Friday deals! Boy, have things changed. We now have Black Friday deals all month long since we can shop 24/7 with online retailers. This morning, we sent our Black Friday post with all of our picks from Amazon, Talbots, Madewell,  and Ann Taylor. Let’s just say we have compiled a few shopping tips for YOU to make your life a little easier. Bring on the Holiday Cheer!

IMG_8631

I hope y’all had a lovely Thanksgiving Holiday. We received BIG news at the Djalali house. Guess who is going to be a BeBe? That’s code for Grandmother!!! Yep, Andrew and Chelsea are expecting a baby girl on May 23rd, and we couldn’t be more excited! We had a low-key gender reveal party with pink cake, sharing the big news. Chelsea’s mom was present, and I don’t think there are two women more excited than KiKi and BeBe!!! I can tell you one thing: Baby D will have a gorgeous wardrobe from day 1… just sayin’.

Bring on the Holiday Cheer!

Beth's Black Friday Outfit

But if you stopped by today, you know we’re kicking off the weekend with a yummy recipe and cocktail. Many of us have leftover turkey after the Thanksgiving holiday, so what better way to use it than Turkey Noodle Soup? Give me all the soup when the temps dip down, and boy, are we chilly the next week or so.

IMG_8634

Today, I slipped into a black chunky turtleneck, pulled my tights out of storage, and decided faux leather shorts and knee-high boots were the perfect companions.

Happy Friday, gang! It’s T-minus six days until Thanksgiving and thirty-three days until Christmas. Yikes! This girl has to get in gear! I have purchased zero Christmas gifts thus far…not to worry. I always have Amazon as a backup for speedy delivery. If you have not visited my Amazon Storefront, what are you waiting for? Kelly and I update the storefront regularly, so stop by. And if you missed the Luxe for Less Amazon Dupes post, you can read it here. Since it's our last Fridays with Oscar before Thanksgiving, today we have A Thanksgiving Cocktail and Side.

A Thanksgiving Cocktail and Side

Beth's Thanksgiving Outfit

Thanksgiving is late this year, so there’s still time to mix up your menu if you’re so inclined. Kelly whipped up a Roast Squash and Chard dish perfect for feast day. I loved every bite! Since the temps are cooler it’s time for corduroys, which are a nice change of pace from jeans or chinos. Pink is my signature color, so these pink corduroys (available in six colors) from Vineyard Vines are the perfect choice.

If you love a preppy look as much as I do, then a fisherman’s sweater (old, similar here and here) will do the trick. It’s classic, timeless, and puts a prep into my step every time. Suede block heels from J.Crew that are years (old, similar here and here) complete my casual yet chic outfit.

Thanksgiving Side: Roast Squash & Wilted Chard with Rosemary Goat Cheese

This Roast Squash & Wilted Chard with Rosemary Goat Cheese is a great appetizer, but I think it's also a perfect side. Roasted squash and the beautiful glossy greens make a gorgeous presentation. Roast Squash & Wilted Chard with Rosemary Goat Cheese

  • Author: Better Homes & Gardens

Ingredients

Scale

8 oz. Goat Cheese, at room temperature

4 oz. Cream Cheese, at room temperature

1/2 cup Extra Virgin Oliva Oil

6 large Garlic Cloves, smashed

2 Sprigs Fresh Rosemary

1 Lemon

1 small Butternut Squash, peeled, seeded, and cut into 1-inch chunks (6 cups)

1 large Red Onion, cut into 8 wedges

4 Garlic Cloves, minced

4 Sprigs Fresh Thyme, leaves removed

1 bunch Swiss Chard. Stems removed, leaves roughly chopped

Instructions

Let goat cheese and cream cheese stand at room temperature for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, for garlic-rosemary oil, in a small saucepan combine olive oil, smashed garlic, and rosemary sprigs. Heat over medium-low to a gentle simmer; cook until garlic is golden (Be careful not to burn the garlic.) Remove from heat. Using a slotted spoon, remove garlic and rosemary from oil. Strip leaves from rosemary sprigs. Finely chop leaves and garlic; reserve for garnish.

For rosemary goat cheese, remove 2 tsp. zest and squeeze 1 Tbsp. juice from lemon. In a food processor combine goat cheese, cream cheese, 3 Tbsp of the garlic-rosemary oil, the lemon zest and juice, the 1 Tbsp. chopped fresh rosemary, ½ tsp. salt, and ¼ tsp. freshly ground black pepper. Process until smooth. Transfer to a bowl; cover and chill until ready to use (up to 3 days; let stand at room temperature 30 minutes before using).

Preheat oven to 425°F. In a large bowl combine squash, red onion, and ¼ cup of the garlic-rosemary oil; toss to coat. Add minced garlic, thyme leaves, the 1 tsp. chopped rosemary, and ½ tsp. each salt and pepper; toss to distribute evenly. Spread on a large-rimmed baking sheet.

Roast until squash is golden brown and crispy on the bottom, 30 minutes. Add chard leaves; toss to coat with some of the oil. Roast until leaves wilt, 5 minutes.

Spread rosemary goat cheese on a serving platter. Arrange roasted vegetables on top.

Drizzle with the remaining garlic-rosemary oil and top with the reserved chopped crispy garlic and rosemary. Serves 6.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Oscar, Ollie, Kelly, and I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!

Fall Holiday Cocktail and Appetizer

Happy Friday, gang! Good golly, Miss Molly, but this month is disappearing. It’s November 15th, the halfway mark. Thanksgiving is late this year, November 28th. Then it’s onto Christmas, Hanukkah, and NYE. YIKES! If you’re looking for inspiration for your Thanksgiving outfit, look at this blog post for casual holiday looks. But today is Friday, which means another weekend is on deck. Kelly stopped by and whipped up a delicious and festive appetizer that’s also easy to assemble. So today, we have a yummy fall holiday cocktail and appetizer!

Fall Holiday Cocktail and Appetizer

My house is undergoing a mini-renovation, so chaos will reign in the short term. Downstairs, the studio where the Podcast, YouTube, and Instagram stations will live is being transformed. It will make my life so much easier to have my work and home life separated once and for all. Right now, who knows where the studio lights shift to? Dining room, living room? Where’s my microphone? Where’s the latest outfit? I’m telling you I had no idea what I was getting into almost ten years ago. Can you believe it? I’ve been blogging for close to ten years?! Next March, we plan on a BIG celebration, and I have all of YOU to thank for this incredible journey. Stay tuned!

Beth's Fall Holiday Casual Outfit

If it’s Friday, then I have a casual chic outfit on hand. I’m loving these green velvet jeans from J. McLaughlin, which have been on style repeat for the past few weeks. The green turtleneck from Sézane sold out lickety-split, but there are similar ones here and here. How cute are these stack bracelets from Frances Valentine?! I love that brand! Their clothes are pricey, but their jewelry is affordable. Green suede driving mocs complete this monochromatic outfit.

The Bee's Knees is a classic gin-based lemon cocktail, this version gives it a fall makeover with fig jam. A wonderful addition to the mix, the fig jam takes away some of the tartness for a smooth fall cocktail. We garnished the Fig Jam Bee's Knees with fresh thyme for an herbal aroma.

Fall Holiday Appetizer - Pear Brie and Apricot Wreath

A filled pastry wreath is an easy appetizer to prepare and it makes such a festive and beautiful presentation! I love the flexibility of this appetizer, you can fill it with your favorite cheese, maybe try apples instead of pear, or fig jam instead of apricot. While we left our wreath vegetarian, sliced deli ham would be a great addition.

Jewelry and Accessories - Necklaces

There’s something to suit every style and budget when it comes to gold chain necklaces. Delicate gold chains have been trending for the past few years. Layer two or three over your white tee.

But I love a chunky statement necklace that grabs all the attention. When paired with the right outfit a statement necklace is guaranteed to turn heads.

The timeless and classic pearl necklace is the perfect gift for a cherished family member. Every time I pull out my string of pearls, I think of my parents who gifted me my first pearl necklace. Pearls go perfectly with a little black dress as their white iridescent luster bounces off the black for a simple, elegant look.

Pearl Necklaces

Don’t be afraid to add faux pearls to your collection per Jackie Kennedy. Long strands of faux pearls look fantastic layered a la Coco Chanel.

Jewelry and Accessories - Earrings

Pearl studs are the perfect earrings to wear no matter if you are sixteen or sixty. What I love most about pearl studs is that they can go to school, work, or an evening out and still look fabulous. Pearls are versatile gemstones that can be dressed up or down with ease. In my humble opinion, pearl studs are the go-with-anything, go-anywhere earrings.

Not everyone is as ga-ga over pearls as I am. But we all know diamonds are a girl’s best friend. honestly, who doesn’t love diamonds? Especially diamond studs that are simple and chic. If you love an understated yet elegant look, the sparkle from a pair of diamond studs is a perfect choice. Cubic Zirconia and crystal are great alternatives that still give that sparkle and shine!

Jewelry and Accessories - Bracelets

The tennis bracelet is a classic, with its symmetrical line of diamonds sitting neatly in a row. There are many different sizes when it comes to a tennis bracelet, so there’s definitely one that’s in your budget.

I like to keep one real diamond bracelet and one faux in my lineup. I always travel with costume jewelry for a hassle-free trip. There’s never a worry if I lose a bracelet or earrings, or in the rare case, it’s stolen.

Sparkle and Shine Bracelets

A gold bracelet is an easy-to-wear classic that looks chic paired with jeans or a dress. Stack them to your heart’s content or wear them one at a time. Choose a bangle or link bracelet for a go-anywhere classic.
